10 Books I Vow to Read in 2019

So 2018 wasn't exactly my best year in many aspects. Unfortunately due to life situations, reading took a backseat in September and I found it extremely hard to pick up a book for the remaining months of the year. Now it's 2019 and I look back on this blog that I started and I'm rather sad that I was not able to post as much as I had originally hoped to do. I'm so thankful to Jodie who has continued posting reviews while I have been away and the friendship that I have created with my two co-bloggers. With that being said, my goal this year is to post more on my blog (that shouldn't be too hard to do considering I barely posted last year).

For my first post of 2019 I thought it would be fun to post a short list of 10 books that I have not yet read that I want to get around to reading this year. So without further ado, here is my list of 10 books that I vow to read by the end of 2019.

First up, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I was so excited when I opened my December Secret Sister package and saw that my amazing sister bought me the duology. This duo has been on my radar for quite some time. I feel like every time I hear something about these two books it's always positive. Not only that but the covers just look so intriguing to me. This book is definitely high up on my list of books that I need to read this year.

The only book on this list that I don't already own is Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. That's not to say that there aren't any other books coming out this year that I feel that I absolutely must read but really the point of this list was for me to list books that I already own that I have not yet read. So why is it that this book made it's way onto my list? To be completely honest, these two authors hold a bit of a special spot in my heart. You see right before I got together with my boyfriend, I had bought him Illuminae and asked him to read the book with me. We have since read all three books together and I plan to continue that tradition with this new book. I look forward to the time that we spend together side by side reading a book and then later discussing the events that took place.

Next up is Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West. For quite some time I refused to read contemporary YA unless it was Sarah Dessen. Then I found Kasie West and fell in love. So it's a bit of a surprise to me that I've had this book as long as I have without attempting to read it. This is one that I'm really excited to read and I think it will make a great companion for my trip to Hawaii (if it even makes it through the plane ride).

One of the newest additions to my bookshelf, is The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Again I've heard so much about this book and everything I've heard so far is really good. To be honest I'm a little afraid that this book wont stand up to the hype that's been created for it. But I really hope that it does. I do enjoy reading books about fairies (as you'll see this isn't the only one on my list that I need to read) and I have read books by Holly Black in the past. It has been many years since I've last read her work so I'm interested to see how her writing has changed and improved over the years.

Why I waited so long to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before, I don't know. But now it's been months since I read the first book and I still have read to read the next which is why P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han falls on this list. I adored the first book and of course the Netflix movie for it was so darn cute that I had to watch it more than just a handful of times. I know that the main reason I haven't read this book yet is due to the fact that I was working through finding out that my dad has cancer but I know that as soon as I pick it up I will have wished that I did so sooner. I'm interested to see how the introduction of another love interest will play out and how Lara Jean will continue to grow in the series.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is a book that has been sitting on my bookshelf far longer than I would really care to admit. To make it even worse, I have actually attempted to read this book before. So why haven't I finished this book yet? It's not because I don't like it. I actually enjoyed the few chapters that I read, I just have this really bad habit of reading multiple books at a time and then I get pulled into one and can't put it down and forget I was reading something else. That's exactly what happened here and by the time I remembered I still needed to read this book, I forgot everything that had happened and needed to start over.

Another title granted to me by my amazing secret sister is Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. Again, I've only ever heard amazing things about this book and knew that I needed it. During the past few months I have attempted to start reading it but my brain power hasn't been there with everything going on. So I decided to start reading a book that I had already read and loved to get back into the swing of reading. Now that I have finally finished that book I feel like I'm ready to begin reading new books again. I'm really excited to sink into this book and see exactly what the hype is about.

On my journey to find new contemporary authors to read, I found Stephanie Perkins. I have really enjoyed her writing and look forward to reading Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. I feel like her writing is so true to the characters and you really get to watch them all grow and make choices and it's just really amazing. This book might also be saved for my trip to Hawaii but we'll see if I can wait that long.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber is another book that I began reading once upon a time and forgot to pick it back up. I never got far enough in the story to really get pulled in but I'm s till very interested in the book and think that it's a very unique concept. It's one of the books that I regret not sitting down and reading right away when I got it but it will be great company this year.

I've had A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas since the day it came out I believe. It was actually a gift from my boyfriend because he knew how much I had enjoyed the first book. I still have no idea why I have not read this book yet. I think it was that some details were spoiled and I was really unsure if I was going to like the way the book ended up going. Either way, this year I am determined to continue reading this series and make my own opinion on the events.

So there is my list of books that I'm determined to read this year. Which book(s) do you think I must read off of this list? What is your number one must read book for this year (released or not yet released)?
