Broken Beauty (Beauty #3) by Skye Warren

Book Review

Title: Broken Beauty (Beauty #3)

Author: Skye Warren

Genre: Erotic/Romance

Rating: *****

Review: The synopsis for Broken Beauty mentions that a troubling revelation puts Blake’s newfound career in jeopardy and Erin’s impending graduation at risk so I was really excited to jump into the third book in this series. We get some more backstory on Blake early on where we learn he wasn’t just scarred in the explosion but that he and another officer Joe Davis were captured. Due to Blake’s injuries they decide to torture Joe and he has never recovered from the mental wounds inflicted but Blake stands by his friend, paying off the family’s mortgage and even making sure Joe’s partner and child were ok. Erin is glad to be finishing college soon as she only needs one class to graduate but it turns out that Blake is her professor for that class, which may throw up a lot of problems as he is dating he and grading her work won’t be allowed if they are found out but Erin is determined to get through it as she can’t wait another semester to graduate and she can’t choose a different class as it is too late.

Erin tells Blake that she intends to wait another year to graduate but she would need to get a new job, as she can’t work for Blake anymore in order to pay for it and when he asks why she has no choice but to come clean about him being her professor. Rather than freaking out Blake suggests that because no one knows about their relationship she just takes the class and they be as discreet as they can be given the situation. Both are nervous about it and it doesn’t help with Melinda showing up all the time trying to throw a spanner in the works but before they know they are halfway through the semester and everything is going great as Erin gradually helps Blake undo the scars of his past. However, I have a really bad feeling that something is going to happen that might destroy everything they have built and worked so hard to protect.

I was right as Melinda hired a private investigator thinking there was another woman in Blake’s life, she just wasn’t expecting the woman to be one of his students and she immediately tries to use this to her advantage telling Erin that she knows about her relationship with Blake accusing her of sleeping with him for a better grade and she even secretly makes an accusation of plagiarism in her thesis meaning she is under a lot of pressure. However, when Melinda turns to Blake to try and get him back he uses her own methods against her telling her that he knows about her underhand dealings and if she wants to keep her job and position in the community she had better leave Erin alone. In all this time, Blake and Erin haven’t seen each other but when she goes to him, he ends telling her that if she doesn’t want to see him until she graduates then he completely respects that decision but she is his as much as he is hers meaning that when this is all over they will still be together and the pressure building on Erin finally gets to her. I did enjoy the scene where Erin came clean to her mother but her mother’s own history makes her weary of Blake and his intentions but Erin defends him with pride and I hope Blake ends up meeting Erin’s mother at some point as that will be very interesting to see. The ending scene of Broken Beauty was divine as Blake finally allows himself to fully trust Erin with his heart and his past, he even tells her briefly about what happened to him and she still loves although I believe she loves him more because of this. Overall, Broken Beauty is my favourite book in the series but there are two more to go.
