Title: Call Me Daddy by Jade West
Genre: Romance, Erotic
Rating: 5 Stars
I have read a few books in the past by Jade West but I didn’t love any of them as much as I did Call Me Daddy. We are introduced to the 18 year old Laine, celebrating her birthday when she ditched by her best friend, Kelly-Anne and she realises that Kelly-Anne has her keys, phone and money in her bag meaning Laine has no way of getting home and to make it worse there is heavy rain this night. She ends up bumming a cigarette of a guy who mistakes her for a prostitute even though nothing about Laine’s looks or personality suggests this and he is on the verge of assaulting her when she runs out into the road to almost get run over by Nick. Nick realises what is going on and rescues Laine from that situation and even lets Laine stay at his place for the night given the fact she can’t get into her house and offers to take her home the following morning and she accepts. From the very beginning there is a lot of tension between the pair but Laine is a virgin and Nick is a lot older than her so nothing happens.
The next day he takes her to Kelly-Anne’s place to collect her things only to learn Kelly-Anne actually left them with some guys at the club. Nick and Laine head to her place to discover it has been trashed by the guys Kelly-Anne left her keys with and this is absolutely devastating for Laine as they even destroyed her childhood teddy bear, Ted. Nick steps up here and takes Laine back to his place and says she can stay there for as long as it takes to get her place fit for living again. He also takes her to get new clothes and a new phone since her were stolen or vandalized beyond use. Nick is absolutely amazing for Laine during this time but she realises that she is sexually attracted to the older man and doesn’t know what to do about it. Nick ends up sitting her down and they discuss the attraction between them and the protective feelings Nick has towards her. We learn that Nick was a father, although not biologically, to Jane who died in a car accident when her mother Louisa went back to the scumbag boyfriend she had, the same one Nick rescued her from. Laine sympathises with him as she never really had a family, she doesn’t know who her father is, her mother was always preoccupied with work or men so she was essentially left to fend for herself. They seem to fulfil a need in each other, Nick needs to take care of someone and Laine wants to be taken care of.
We witness the slow and sensual progression of their relationship which was beautiful to read about but they do a lot more than that. Nick helps Laine realises that Kelly-Anne isn’t a good person for her to be around and their relationship is toxic at best but he doesn’t take her friends away without introducing her to people who are more suited to her. He also never hides their relationship openly talking about her with his work colleagues and having a picture of her on his desk. When they attend his office’s Christmas party together she is accepted by the people there and there is no backlash or hate for their relationship despite the age gap between them. Towards the end of the novel, we get to see Laine and Nick engaged and trying for a baby which was amazing. Overall, I loved Call Me Daddy and if Jade West has written or does write anything similar to this I will definitely be reading it in the future.
