So much nostalgia in this series. It’s short only 6 volumes or 2 omnibus’ which is a little disappointing considering how much I adored this manga and anime. It’s informative as it describes and explains real things that happen to the body in an entertaining fashion from things like the flu and allergies.
Even though you might understand from a biological perspective what happens during these things like allergies, seeing them depicted in this way was so funny. Having the main white blood cell go from a quiet, stoic type to raging psychopath when germs enter the body to the red blood cell constantly getting lost in navigating the body was hilarious.
The art style is a little generic but that really works for what the story is doing and how it is presented. I think despite the slightly gory parts where the white blood cells are completely destroying the germs, it is appropriate for older children and can introduce them to the topics of biology, medicine and health without it being boring or overwhelming and the anime depicts this even better.
For me, if I had something like this when I was like 8 or 9, I would have paid much more attention in science classes than I actually did which is funny to think about. I would recommend this for people looking for a palette cleanser between series since it is so short and easy to read but doesn’t really have any heavy themes or stuff that you really need to devote your attention too.
Overall, just a cute, classic manga series with some amazing art, unique depictions of illness and disease and is extremely informative and entertaining even for those of us getting up there in years like myself – pushing 30 over here. Super highly recommended.
