Title: Chainsaw Man Vol. 3 by Tatsuki Fujimoto
Genre: Manga, Fantasy, Horror
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 3 of Chainsaw Man started off with a lot of humour after Denji frees the team from the hotel by basically torturing the devil until it surrenders its heart. The group go out drinking and we learn that Denji is only 16 which shocked me but he does come across as very much the teenage boy at times which makes sense now. Makima obviously knows something about Denji and the Chainsaw devil, Pochita but she isn’t willing to say anything about it right now. We do know that the gun devil is afraid of the chainsaw devil and is sending a lot of devils after Denji’s heart.
I think this might be because Pochita has some hidden powers or abilities and this means the devil hunters are now being targeted because Denji is with them. People launch coordinated attacks on the devil hunters and it seems like Makima is killed. When Denji’s group is attacked both Denji and Himeno are shot but Power manages to slow Himeno’s bleeding. Aki faces down the blade devil that turns up and uses his blade which we know will shorten his life due to power attached to it and the devil seems to go down.
A person turns up who might be the one contracted to the blade devil as it gets back up which isn’t good given the situation. Aki is going to use his blade for a second time but is stopped by Power and Himeno. Himeno uses her contract with the ghost devil to buy the group some time but sacrifices her life in exchange and leaves Aki with a warning not to die. This was heartbreaking as earlier in the volume Himeno and Denji makes a deal to set each other up, Denji with Makima and Himeno with Aki. Denji manages to use Pochita’s power and the battle between him and the blade devil begins.
