Book Review
Title: Chainsaw Man Vol. 5 by Tatsuki Fujimoto
Genre: Manga, Fantasy, Horror
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Volume 5 opens with the fight between Aki and the ghost devil and it isn’t as action packed as I thought but a lot more wholesome. Aki uses the power of the future devil in order to see the devil’s movements before they happen but it suddenly stops and present Aki with a cigarette from Himeno with the words easy revenge written on it. Aki then remembers the ghost devil doesn’t have any eyes and senses fear so when he isn’t afraid of it, it can’t attack him and he finishes it quickly and the young girl in the squad restrains the snake girl.
However, she soon kills herself presumably this was a clause in her contract with the gun devil but they were able to find a large piece of the gun devil meaning all the parts they have now are starting to move towards the main body rather than other small pieces. We get a cute scene of Makima going on a date with Denji not because she likes him but because this is a way for her to manipulate him into doing what she wants without resistance but Denji ends up meeting a girl named Reze who he cheers up because she is crying.
He ends up visiting the café where she works for a week straight and getting to know her but he is torn between his desire for Makima and his new more romantic feelings towards Reze. There is more to Reze than meets the eye as we see when another contracted person is sent to take down Denji. This man is contracted to the typhoon devil and attempts to capture Reze to pressure Denji but he isn’t aware that Reze is also contracted to the typhoon devil and she easily kills him before returning to Denji. The pair end up going to a festival where Reze asks Denji to leave the devil hunters and run away with her but we aren’t sure of her motivation yet but she does seem to like Denji.
