Title: Chainsaw Man Vol. 8 by Tatsuki Fujimoto
Genre: Manga, Fantasy, Horror
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 8 was an absolutely stunning volume as we continue the fight between the international devil hunters as they all try to get their hands on Denji. Santa Claus who has a contract with the puppet devil is revealed not to be the old man as we assumed but his granddaughter and when she has Denji cornered and incapacitated she sends the entire group to hell in order to fulfil her side of the contract with the darkness devil.
Being in hell has an interesting effect of the devilmen and fiends since some remember from their previous lives as devils being in hell and they can sense the darkness devil drawing closer to them. Despite having a lot of power between them, none have the power to take down this devil and it comes down to Makima to save the day as she doesn’t want others getting their hands on Denji’s heart but we still don’t know the exact devil she is contracted with but it is insanely powerful. After getting out of hell, Denji now healed has to take on the puppet devil and the darkness devil’s power which is proving to be a difficult fight for him since the puppet devil allows its user to spread the pain inflicted across the dolls it creates and it regenerates at a crazy rate.
The final showdown between these two is amazing as we see Denji be his usual idiot self but also using his head as he uses light against the power of the darkness devil which eventually allows him to defeat it. In the aftermath, we see that some devil hunters both in Japan and abroad understand the threat Makima poses and want her out of the picture but we aren’t sure why yet but I am looking forward to finding out.
