Title: Christmas on the Thirteenth Floor by Lee Jacquot
Genre: Romance, Holiday, Erotic
Rating: 4 Stars
This was novella that I picked up a long time ago and never got around to as many of you can tell by the fact it is Christmas themed and it’s almost September. However, I was really in the mood for a short, smutty, cute romance so I decided to finally pick it up and give it a go.
We are following Presley, who is the personal assistant to Roman Chen, her completely and utter asshole of a boss. Presley makes a big deal out of disliking Roman but her friend, Monica sees right through her. Presley despite her protests works hard to make sure everything is up to Roman’s standard because deep down she really want to please him and for him to be proud of her even if she refuses to admit it to herself.
On the other hand, Roman is completely aware of the desires that Presley isn’t even aware of because he has been watching her for a long time. When he gets a call from a magazine that Presley has been sending articles to, he knows she won’t be working for him much longer and decides to take a risk with her. He decides to buy her an extremely expensive dress for that nights Christmas party because he knows that she doesn’t have one. When both arrive for the party, he uses the elevator ride together to show Presley how he really feels about her and see if she’s open to the kind of relationship he wants.
Surprisingly, Presley puts up very little fight because the moment Roman kisses her for the first time, she realises that the hate she felt for him was a way of thinly disguised her attraction to him and immediately gives into it. The pair play a little game involving some Ben Wa balls but soon we are into the good content. These scenes were fairly well written, avoiding all of the cringy language I tend to see in these kinds of books and ended on a real high note. I personally really enjoyed the deal perspective and how both Presley and Roman’s narrative voices were very distinct from each other which is something some authors can struggle with. Overall, I enjoyed it and will be checking out more of the author in the future.
