Cold Fingers (Books 1–3) by Amy Spector

Book Review

Title: Cold Fingers (Books 1–3)

Author: Amy Spector

Genre: LGBT/Romance/Paranormal

Rating: ****

Review: Much like my review of Surrender to Them by Kelli Callahan I will review the books in this bind-up individually. So this series follows Christopher Minnick & Victor Polidori as some bodies disappearing under mysterious circumstances.

Cold Fingers

The prologue of Cold Fingers shows us Christopher in a therapist’s office talking about his breakup with Victor when he suspected of being a necrophiliac and now he is positive about Vic. We then jump two years into the past, when Christopher is getting out of the hospital on his 30th birthday and is introduced to the handsome surgeon Vic, and the pair quickly develop a relationship.

As the relationship quickly speeds up Christopher is warned by Lee; his closest friend that Vic wouldn’t be good for him, but Christopher has already made up his mind about Vic and their relationship. However, it is strange when bodies start going missing from local graveyards and Vic seems to know a lot about preserving bodies which doesn’t seem that unusual for a surgeon, but what is strange is when he invites Christopher to his house for a date and he arrives practically frozen from his car breaking down, Vic is excited by the fact that Christopher is extremely cold.

In the end, it turns out that Vic seems to have the power to bring back the dead as he brought back Jonathan for Christopher even after they broke up. Even after Christopher’s accident, Vic brings him back and they decide to give their relationship a second chance. There was a really creepy vibe surrounding this novella, but the author seemed reluctant to really go there with it and I would have like it a lot better if she had but I will definitely be reading book 2.

Body of Work

The opening of Body of Work was interesting as we see the rekindled romance between Vic and Christopher but Jessie seems to think that Christopher is now a ghost and not even Lee is aware that Vic has brought back his mother, Christopher or Jonathan but people are still inquiring into the case of the disappearing bodies. There also seems to be a budding relationship between Lee and Grant which I was pleased to see as this series not only contains LGBT relationships but age gap relationships as well.

The relationship between Christopher and Vic also seems to be strained as Vic is still working as a surgeon while Christopher is currently unemployed as he sold the store, he had so lovingly crafted in the first book. Things take another paranormal turn when some vampires enter the picture and kidnap Lee. It turns out that Marcus, one of the vampire was madly in love with Lee 50 years before and was killed in an “animal attack” and has returned to claim Lee as his own. It is now up to Vic, Grant, and Christopher to rescue Lee from the vampire without ending up dead themselves.

The ending of Body of Work was far darker than the previous book suggested, and rather than focusing on the relationship between Vic and Christopher that was built in the first book, it was focusing on the other relationships the characters had. I can’t wait to jump into book 3 straight away.

Pretty Plastic

Pretty Plastic opens with some major tension between Christopher and Vic as Vic has interviewed with a cosmetic hospital called Pretty four month prior but it means working with Austen, who has a huge crush on Vic and makes no attempt to hide it even when Christopher is around, and some other strange paranormal things seem to be happening in the background. This makes me slightly nervous given what this led to in the previous book.

Pretty Plastic seems to be developing deeper into the relationships again but this time between the twin brothers Jonathan and Christopher focusing mainly on their relationship after learning of their parent’s death and something they have left behind for both brothers. While Jonathan wants nothing to do with the lawyers, but Christopher is curious and wants to know. We are also beginning to see some hint at Jonathan being bisexual after Christopher learns of an encounter Jonathan had an encounter with Austen.

The ending of Pretty Plastic was interesting, and I felt that these novellas had so much potential if they had been developed a little more especially the paranormal elements of the novella seemed a little rushed as did the romance scenes. I still highly recommended this series if you are looking for something a little different in the paranormal romance genre.
