Title: Confession by Selena Kitt (Under Mr. Nolan’s Bed Book 2)
Genre: Erotic, Romance
Rating: 5 Stars
After reading Temptation more than once and despite the shocking reveal at the end I have never continued with the series and I am finishing it now since there are only three books totalling less than 700 pages. Confession definitely had a much darker opening with Leah being taken to a nunnery by her mother and Father Michael since she is pregnant with Rob’s baby, who also happens to be Leah’s father. Some might know nunnery’s at this time would take the babies of young women and illegally adopt them out and I hope this isn’t the case for Leah since this girl has been through enough already but she is now going to be spending until December, when she’s due, in the nunnery under the false name of Lily.
Leah did give her mother a letter for Rob but I doubt she will deliver it because she has already claimed that Leah is going to a dance school in New York. Erica and Rob are both heartbroken by Leah’s disappearance but the story her mother came up with doesn’t hold since Rob has already been to the school where Leah is meant to be and she isn’t there. Erica isn’t going to give up and begins looking for her friend wherever she can, meanwhile, Leah seems to be noticing things like how all the baby clothes they make are taken away and sold meaning that their babies might be taken but she hasn’t realised this yet. Leah is quite far along it seems as it is September and she’s due in December making her about 6 months pregnant which checks out since she can feel her baby moving and she knows it’s a girl who will be a dancer like her. The question I have is can Rob and Erica find Leah before the worst happens.
The question Leah’s father is still up in the air as her mother might have been lying when she claimed Rob was Leah’s father in order to stop the relationship and wedding between them since Rob proposed in the last book but I am not sure yet. Erica through reading her mother’s diaries learns of a secret society within the school and is invited to join it by Father Patrick. Erica is sure the society has something to do with sexual acts since her mother heavily implies it and she overhears a conversation between her father and Father Patrick. This conversation implies her father knows about the society and made a deal with Father Michael in order to keep Erica out of it. She now has collected most of the pieces to solve the puzzle of Leah’s disappearance, however, she isn’t sure how they all fit together so she turns to Father Michael for help since she knows he knows where Leah is and we know he was the one that informed her mother of Leah’s pregnancy and he agrees to help her since he wants to know what this secret society is as well.
We bounce bath and forth between these storylines as Leah is keeping the identity of her baby’s father a secret even though she is being pressured into giving the child up for adoption. When Father Michael visits her she does tell him that Rob is the father and her mother claimed that he is also Leah’s father and Father Michael promises to look into it for her. Meanwhile, Erica is diving deeper into the secret society but also seems to be developing an attraction to Father Michael after he comforts her when a boy rapes her. In October, the first girl Leah became friends with gives birth and another explains to her about the society and actually invites her to the ceremony, meanwhile, Erica is falling deeper into the society “servicing” Father Patrick in order to prove herself worthy and obedient to him.
When the day arrives for the ceremony, Leah decides to sneak into the private area by using a mask one of the other girls left behind. There she learns that everything she was told is true but she also realises that Erica is one of the Mary’s and her father is there as well although both don’t seem to recognise each other because of the masks prompting Leah to flee and Marty’s waters break. With less than 50 pages left in the novel I wasn’t sure how this is going to end but it is definitely going to have a reunion between Erica, Leah and Rob although whether it will be a happy one remains to be seen as Leah is only a month or so away from giving birth herself. Despite wanting to keep the babies she learn the only way she can do that is if she pays the nuns back for everything which is over $1000 which she doesn’t have. The society also has payments $10,000 for every girl that willing gives up her baby and the Mary’s like Erica are taken care of for the rest of their lives.
The finale sees Leah going into labour and delivering a little girl she names Grace all by herself, however, she is tricked into signing the adoption papers as they take Grace away. Help is on the way in the form of Erica, Rob and Father Michael who are coming to her aid. Erica and Rob have to talk since his blood type is AB- negative meaning he can’t be Leah or Erica’s father. Rob explains that Susan couldn’t have children and they adopted Erica but that doesn’t change anything. Upon arriving at the hospital they learn what has happened and try to chase down the Sister taking Grace but they are unsuccessful, Rob takes Erica and Leah home with the promise that they won’t stop until they bring Grace home where she belongs.
