Title: Daddy’s Angel by K. A. Knight
Genre: Erotic, Romance
Rating: 4 Stars
K. A. Knight has been all over TikTok because of Den of Vipers which I do own but haven’t read, however, when I saw they also wrote Daddy’s Angel I decided to pick it up. We are introduced to Lexi who is dating Justin as she meets his father, Tyler for the first time at his birthday party. We can see that the attraction between the pair is immediate but both decide not to do anything about it because of the fact that Lexi is dating Tyler’s son. However, Lexi during this time teases Tyler and solidifies the fact that he is attracted to her and uses this to her advantage to spice up her relationship with Justin without his knowledge. Eventually Lexi learn that Justin cheated on her and they break up and Tyler appears at the burlesque club where Lexi works and the game is on. The pair finally give into temptation and the bathroom scene was very hot and shows that both Lexi and Tyler have a daddy kink which is my guilty pleasure in books like this. We also see during this scene that there isn’t just sexual attraction between Lexi and Tyler, Tyler genuinely cares for Lexi as a person and is interested in her hobbies and dreams and wants to get to know her better. They end up leaving the club together to start the beginning of their relationship and while this isn’t the most sophisticated writing it gets the job done.
Tyler and Lexi spend the night fulfilling some of the fantasies and wants they have both had in the past few months and each scene is absolutely divine and kept me wanting more. However, the most interesting part is realising that Tyler hasn’t dated or settled down because he has never had the desire to until he met Lexi. We learn that Justin was conceived through a one night stand and while Tyler wasn’t ready to settle down he did take care of and raise his son which was really nice to see. After meeting Lexi, Tyler realises that she is the one for him and he wants her to stay with him but he knows Lexi’s history with dating are usually bad or inconsiderate guys that end up hurting her like his own son and he has to proceed with caution. He does make his feelings known to Lexi but he doesn’t push her to respond or pressure her in any way. Tyler even goes a far as asking her to spend one more night with him and if she wants to go then he will let her go and won’t even go after her if that is what she wants. While Lexi doesn’t respond verbally to this we can see through her perspective that she has some deeper feelings for Tyler but hasn’t quite accepted them fully yet but she is beginning to trust him with her emotions and her heart.
While Lexi does agree to spend one more night with Tyler she is under the impression that it can’t last because of the age gap between them and her previous connection to Justin. However, she is unaware or unable to accept the fact that neither of them truly care about or what other people think of them. After another hot and steamy night together Lexi leaves Tyler and both are sad about it but he is unwillingly to let her go but doesn’t want to pressure or crowd her when she needs space. She does agree to go out on a date with him in a few nights time so they are still in contact with each other and when he picks her up she realises how much she missed him despite only being apart for a few days. The date goes surprisingly well until a wayward comment from an older woman upsets Lexi and while she tries to hide it Tyler realises something is wrong and she tells him. Rather than fulfilling his promise to end in bed with her Tyler takes a step back and allows Lexi the time she needs to deal with emotions that the comments rose in her and well as time to think on their relationship. However, things are made more complicated when Justin re-enters the picture wanting to get back with Lexi and even though she turned him down he goes to Tyler for advice. Tyler’s advice on leaving Lexi alone and respecting her decision is completely sound as he doesn’t even mention their relationship but Justin is obviously not happy about it but both Lexi and Tyler are unwilling to give up what they have together.
For the next week or so Lexi and Tyler can’t see each other because of their work schedules but they stay in regular contact. However, when Justin shows up at the club where Lexi works pleading with her to get back with him she is scared by the look in his eye. When she refuses to get back together with him because she is seeing someone else although she doesn’t tell him who it is, he becomes more aggressive even punching her mirror which really frightening Lexi but the other girls and security get him to leave and they essentially ban him from the club. When Lexi leaves and finds Tyler waiting for her they go home together where she tells him about what happened with Justin and successfully prevents Tyler from beating up his own son. I did really like that fact that the communication between Lexi and Tyler is great and there aren’t any misunderstanding that arises from it which makes the book more pleasing to read. Tyler also invites her to a family dinner where Justin won’t be present but Lexi is worried about the impression it is going to make especially when he asks her to wear a vibrator throughout the dinner that he can control. Surprisingly it is Tyler’s father who picks up on the relationship between them as he himself is married to a younger woman and he can see how much Tyler loves Lexi and gives him some of the best advice from father to son and this was an extremely wholesome scene with plenty of spice thrown in.
Things get worse when Justin breaks into Lexi’s apartment in the middle of the night when Tyler just happens to be there. Obviously Justin finds out about their relationship and it is here that they say I love you for the first time but Justin is angry and tries to hit Lexi so Tyler breaks his nose before Justin storms off. Justin does go and speak with Tyler a few days later as he still wants Lexi back but this time he threatens to leak a video of them together. Tyler and Justin get into a huge argument and Tyler disowns Justin until he grows up. When he discusses the situation with Lexi, they decide to go public with their relationship to lessen the damage that Justin can do to both of them if he leaks the video. However, they soon get news that Justin has been in an accident and rush to the hospital as Justin is still Tyler’s son where they receive news that Justin has died due to his injuries as he was drunk driving. Tyler is absolutely heartbroken that he wasn’t there for his son when he clearly needed him and that their last conversation was Tyler disowning him and Lexi doesn’t know how to help Tyler through this.
Obviously Tyler becomes very emotionally distant as he is grieving for his son and trying to plan the funeral as well as informing Justin’s mother who is currently living in Paris. Throughout this Lexi is trying to help Tyler but he is pushing her away and he does eventually ask her to leave which breaks her heart which she has finally trusted him with. Tyler realises what he has done but he is blaming himself for Justin’s death and is extremely depressed, Lexi does try to reach out at the funeral and is once again pushes away despite Tyler’s dad telling her that Tyler still needs her. After a few weeks Tyler does try to reach out to Lexi but she knows he is doing it because of his guilt and wants someone there rather than wanting her back specifically so she refuses him. This wakes Tyler up and he begins working through his depression in order to win Lexi back but the grief over Justin’s death is still heavy for him. Eventually they get to the point where they are ready to be together again and it was so heart warming to witness especially since Tyler has thrown himself into building a home for him and Lexi and the family they may have in the future. The few epilogue scenes where we get to see Tyler propose and see Lexi get pregnant with their daughter was beautifully but tinted with sadness as even at this point Tyler is still grieving for Justin but is excited to be a father again. Overall, Daddy’s Angel was a beautiful read and the title definitely doesn’t do it justice and I am so excited to see Den of Vipers and all K. A. Knight’s other works. Highly recommended!
