Book Review

Title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol 14 by Koyoharu Gotouge

Genre: Manga, Fantasy

Rating: 5 Stars

Volume 14 was definitely action packed and we got a lot of backstory and development on some key characters. Muichirou is fighting Gyokko to protect the swordsmiths and as he is almost dying he recovers his lost memories from before he became a demon slayer. His mother died because of illness and his father fell off a cliff while out gathering herbs for her leaving Muichirou and his twin brother alone by the age of ten. Kaguya’s wife visits the boys often wanting them to become swordsmen but Yuuichirou is against it.

After being attacked both brother’s are injured but Muichirou manages to weaken it as the sun is rising but his brother dies and he is taken in by the demon slayers but loses his memory. This awakening allows Muichirou to awaken his demon slayer mark which enhances his power allowing him to kill Gyokko. Back with the others, Mitsuri has arrived to save the day and just in time since the multiple demons have combined into one stronger one and the main body is still on the run.

Mitsuri after having a flashback to her own past is also able to awaken her demon slayer mark and battles with the strong demon while Nezuko, Genya and Tanjirou hunt down the main body but they are unable to pin it down in order to kill Hantengu. We learn that Genya while unable to use breaths has another ability, by eating demons he is able to temporarily gain the demon’s strength and regeneration which allows him to give Tanjirou and opening to kill Hantengu which he does.
