Title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol 21 by Koyoharu Gotouge
Genre: Manga, Fantasy
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 21 doesn’t let up on the heart break as it begins with Muichirou’s death and Genya’s last words to his brother even though he probably didn’t hear Sanemi forgiving him after all this time. With Kokushibo and the other upper moons now dead except for the biwa lady everyone is heading to Muzan’s location but they have mistimed it and he has already revived. The group of demon slayers arriving are quickly healed by Muzan become food for his regeneration but the pillars are on their way.
Since Nakime, the biwa lady controls the Infinity Palace they need to deal with her and get it above ground and drive Muzan into the sun in order to destroy him. After the death of Tamayo, Yuushiro is beside himself since he has loved Tamayo for a long time, using his blood demon art he takes control of Nakime and begins driving the building to the surface. Muzan kills Nakime but Yuushiro is able to use her body and make it to the surface. As the fight with Muzan begins there are five pillars on the scene in Giyuu, Sanemi, Gyomei, Iguro and Mitsuri and everyone except Iguro I think has awakening their mark.
However, Muzan points out that Tanjiro was covered in a massive amount of his blood, too much for him to become a demon and it seems like Tanjirou is dead. At this moment Nezuko awakens, she has been in a coma of sorts since she was given the medication to turn her back into a human but she knows her brother needs her and heads to him. Meanwhile Tanjiro is floating through his ancestor, Sumiyoshi’s memories of Yoriichi and through these memories he is able to learn of Yoriichi’s life and why he became a swordsman after the death of his wife and unborn child. He also learns that Muzan has multiple hearts and brains that need to be destroyed at the same time in order to kill him and the 13th form of Sun breathing will be able to do this. With Tanjirou currently down the other demon slayers are having to delay Muzan the hour and half until sunrise and they achieve this by all of the lower ranks working together and sacrificing themselves in order to protect the pillars.
