Title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol 23 by Koyoharu Gotouge
Genre: Manga, Fantasy
Rating: 5 Stars
In this final volume we see the battle with Muzan come to its conclusion as Tanjirou wakes up and joins the fight once more. With many of the Pillars injured he is fighting alone using his Sun breathing and one by one his friends join him, pushing themselves to the point where they know they are going to die but do it anyway.
Tanjirou with Giyuu’s help manages to pin Muzan to a wall as the sun begins to rise but Muzan is determined to survive. It takes one final effort from everyone left standing to final bring him into the sun. However, Muzan has one last trick up his sleeve and in his final moment he transfers a lot of blood and his will to Tanjirou in the hopes of creating a demon like Nezuko that can conquer the sun with soft enough for him to control.
Many of the Pillars die in this fight and seeing their final moments was devastating. Gyomei learns the truth about the night he lost the people he considered his family while Mitsuri and Obanai confess their feelings to each other and promise they will be together in their next life. The only Pillars that remain standing are Sanemi and Giyuu and despite all their efforts it seems that Tanjirou has died. This isn’t the case but he has been turned into a demon and awakens as Nezuko arrives, with the demons until Muzan’s control dead they know they have no choice but to kill Tanjirou but none of them can bring themselves to hurt him after everything he has done for them.
It is Nezuko and his friends who brings Tanjirou back after Kanao gives him some of Tamayo’s medicine and this is where the story ends as the reign of demons is over, there is no more need for the demon slayers and they are disbanded. We do jump forward in time to see the descendants and reincarnations of our favourite characters and see what they are doing in the present day which was a nice touch.
