Book Review

Title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol 9 by Koyoharu Gotouge

Genre: Manga, Fantasy

Rating: 5 Stars

Volume 9 was an absolutely amazing opening to this arc and honestly it was my favourite of the anime so far. Tengen takes the boys to the red light district where they are searching for his three wives, Makito, Suma and Hinatsuru who have been undercover trying to find the demon and he has lost contact with them. Tengen’s plan is to put each of the boys in disguise in the houses where his wives were to see if they can find out what has happened to them.

Through the boys we learn that Suma has apparently run away, Hinatsuru has been sent to a lower class of brothel since she is sick and Makito is also missing. It is Inosuke who picks up on the prescenes of the demon first and he attempts to follow it but loses the trail so he contacts Tanjiro and Tengen to relay his information. Tengen choose this moment to tell Tanjiro and Inosuke that Zenitsu has also gone missing but Tanjiro is certain all of them are alive, it is just a question of finding where the demon had hidden.

Both Tengen and Inosuke realise that the demons hideout is underground but Tanjiro has been confronted above ground by the upper moon demon, Daki who is responsible for all of this and we know she is also responsible for the deaths of seven Pillars in her lifetime. Underground Inosuke and Tengen free the people that Daki has trapped within her sash while Tanjiro is fighting above ground but the only weapon he has strong enough to take on Daki with is the Dance of the Fire God but after two uses Tanjiro’s body is feeling the effects from it and things don’t look good.
