Demonathon - Final Update

So the Demonathon readathon took place from Feb 14th to Feb 28th and it was a really fun fortnight for me. So these were the prompts:

  1. Incubus and Succubus – Read a steamy romance or a book with a sex scene

  2. Youkai – Read something light and fun

  3. Shetani – Read something weird, doesn’t fit one genre, or is something outside your comfort zone

  4. Wekufe – Read a book with secrets and/or lies

  5. Eudaimones – Read something inspiring

  6. Djinn – Read something adventure-filled or action-filled

  7. Raven Mocker – Read something indulgent

  8. Group – Read “She Walks in Shadows” (the group read)

We also had a variety of demonic talents we could employ during the readathon for a price. I ended up completing 5 of the prompts and all of the bonus challenges.

For the Shetani prompt I read Wilder Girls by Rory Power which is definitely a little weird and does overlap multiple genre, it is also well outside my comfort zone. I ended up giving Wilder Girls 3 stars, I did have some problems with it especially with the supposed LGBT romance as well as some other issues that just dragged the rating down for me.

For the Wekufe prompt I read The Gender Game by Bella Forrest. Now this is one of my favourite guilty pleasure series and I’ve even written a fanfiction featuring Violet and Viggo. It is no surprise I gave this read 5 stars and as secrets are a huge part of this series it fitted the prompt so well.

For the Djinn prompt I read The Vanishing Deep by Astrid Scholte which was definitely action packed from the very beginning as is likely to be one of my favourites for this year but with so many good books we will have to wait and see. This book firmly cemented Scholte as an insta-buy author for me, I already have Four Dead Queens on my TBR to read in the next couple of weeks and Vanishing Deep comes out in a few days and I highly recommend you pick it up.

For the Raven Mocker prompt I read Blood Countess by Lana Popovic. This is another new insta-buy author for me and Blood Countess was most definitely indulgent, dark and gritty and one of the best YA horrors I’ve picked up in years.

The last prompt I completely was the group read but I used the demon Shesmu to skip the group read and still claim half the points so I can’t talk about it. If the demonathon runs again next year I will definitely be taking part again.
