Title: Desired by the Alien (Rebels of Sidyth #5)
Author: Sabrina Kade
Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance
Rating: ***
Review: This is the fifth book in the Rebels of Sidyth series and I have lived all the entries so far, this one is following Exer; who is the most human looking of the Sidyths and Sloane. This pair have a complicated romance before we even begin ad they are mentioned in the previous book as part of a love square. We learn that at the start of this novel that a year has almost passed since the girl arrived. Blythe has given birth to a baby girl named Kyeth and York, Ellis, and Layla are pregnant.
Through Sloane, we learn on her previous assignment was treated as a human doll and was experimented on but never raped meaning she had a better deal than most of the other girls. However, while Sloane is grateful for this she does want to be seen as worthy of some male attention and while Exer does follow her around she only sees him as a friend, and he hasn’t shown any interest in her. This does result in Sloane feeling very lonely and sexually frustrated and Exer disappearing for days at a time doesn’t help as she doesn’t really talk to anyone else. By the time we get to Exer’s perspective, I was a little irradiated with Sloane and a little bored, but I stuck with it because I love this author and series so much. We learn from Exer that he does like Sloane, but he knows that she isn’t looking for a mate and he believes that she doesn’t see him that way. We also learn that unlike the other Sidyths Exer likes to be alone and almost has social anxiety, but we are over a third of the way through the novel and not much has happened in the grand scheme of things so I hoping for the story to pick up soon.
By the time this pair get down to anything interesting, I was close to wanting to bash their heads together. I can appreciate the fact that both come from difficult posts but waiting was torture. By the time they confess, and it turns out to be Sloane doing the confessing we get to see a more vulnerable side to both Sloane and Exer. The relationship between this pair is up and down and really forced both of them to decide whether their possible love or their ideals are more important to them. In the end, I found the second half of the book to be much more entertaining than the first which I found a little boring, but I’d still highly recommend anything Sabrina Kade writes.
