Review: After the explosive events that followed Amel’s ceremony to be sworn in as a dragon rider I couldn’t remember clearly what happened next but I had a vague idea. A small group of Lightbringers including Amel and Lenora escape the burning city along with Rakturan and Savette to a nearby safehouse. At the safehouse they try to decide on their next course of action as Savette can’t control the magic inside her, although Rakturan proves himself to be kind and caring with her. In the farmhouse the Dominar and some of his guards are waiting for them to take a message to Dominion City where the Lord of War is housed and that job falls to Hubric and Amel and they will take Savette with them and I have a feeling Rakturan isn’t going to leave her side while the others head on to a safer location.

I did like the scene where Amel spoke to the Dominar and we can see a small friendship or kinship developing between the pair which I remember develops further as the books progress but I can’t remember much it has been almost 2 years since I read the series. After receiving her first message from the Dominar, Amel and Hubric are heading to deliver it to Comard Eaglespring, General of the Spire, Lord of War and they are taking Savette while Rakturan is heading with the other group but he protests leaving Savette. Amel can tell her cares about her but she promises to take care of her in his absence and with that they are off again. The fly through the night only stopping when they are about to fall out the sky and only for a few hours before they have to move again because they don’t know who could be following them.

After spending a night at an inn where they are almost overrun by refugees trying to take their dragons, they decide it is best to stay away from inns for the foreseeable future. However, one night they are ambushed by agents from the Dusk Covenant trying to get Savette and Amel is starting to believe that she might be the chosen one from the prophecies that Hubric quotes so often. Hubric has been training Amel to fight so she can be of some use but is very quickly overmatched and outnumbered but Rakturan comes charging in to save the day and it is a good thing too as the fight wasn’t going their way despite Hubric’s skill and Savette’s magic. Savette has been working on her control but she finally makes the decision to make the magic serve her rather than serve it after talking to Amel but using it has taken a real toll on her body and she is need of the healing arches now, more than ever.

After the attack Rakturan explains that he believes the Magikas are trying to summon Ifrits, great magical creatures that mark the beginning of the end for the Dominion and they are heading to Shadowboon Grove, close to the healing spires both Savette and Enkenay need. It seems after Enkenay rider died, he himself slowly began to die but he has forged a new bond with Rakturan but it isn’t stopped the decay process only the healing arches can do that. Hubric and Amel make the decision that getting Savette to the arches and checking on the Magikas in Shadowboon Grove is slightly more important than delivering their message from the Dominar so they divert their course and hope the people hunting them are thrown off their trial too. We are treated to another battle at the end of Sworn as the Dusk Covenant manage to raise two Ifrits and while Savette deals with one, her power overwhelms her but they manages to activate the power of the healing arches, healing Raolcan and Enkenay. However, when Savette and Rakturan emerges from the arches both of their eyes are glowing with the white light that had only been in Savette’s before, almost like they are sharing the power that threatened to overwhelm Savette between them but they have bigger problems to worry about now as their message needs to urgently needs to be delivered in light of this new information.
