Educated by Sabrina Kade

Book Review

Title: Educated

Author: Sabrina Kade

Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance

Rating: *****

Review: So, Educated is a short prequel novella to both Purchased and Guarded which I gave 5* reviews. So, from what I can gather this novella follows both Arizona and Blythe during the same timeline as Purchased and Guarded. We are introduced to Arizona’s perspective in the second bunker as she begins telling stories to Drozass, a young Sidyth, who is interested in her, about her life before and how she formed her own little family.

We jump back 6 years where Arizona, Washington, Alaska, and Dakota are all training with a new girl called Kyla unwittingly makes a deal with a client and then doesn’t follow through. Arizona has already been in this line of work for quite a while it seems and agrees to take Kyla’s place but her motivations for doing so aren’t quite clear yet. She makes a deal with Tullis to fulfil Kyla’s bargain but for a very steep cost to herself.

We learn how Arizona built her family through hard work, cunning, and negotiations with many different species but it has put her right at the top with the best assignments. Despite refusing at first Kyla eventually sees sense and joins Arizona’s family. Arizona renames her Kansas, as so begins their journey together.

We then jump to Blythe’s perspective, where she tells Korben about an alien who was kind to her in the past. His name was Solass and he was an Entla, who was a medic at one of the training facility Blythe is stationed at. It seems that Arizona, Washington, Alaska, Dakota, Kyla, and Blythe are all at the same training facilities although they aren’t mentioned by name. Blythe signed the contract for money plain and simple and she is favoured by clients because she doesn’t fight back, and this eventually breaks her down until one of the guards is kind to her.

We learn that Solass was kind to Blythe and looked after her and cared for her when no one else did. She was the first alien she could say that she loved but she never slept with him, in fact, they only ever touched intimately once when he kissed her, but he was one person she misses even now and taught her that not all aliens are bad and that some will be kind.

Despite being very short, I really enjoyed Educated although I would have liked to see a little bit more of a romance than a friendship between Blythe and Solass never the less it was a great and heartwarming read. I have loved every instalment in the Rebels of Sidyth series and I can’t wait to read more from this universe very soon. I’d really like to see an instalment that focuses on Arizona’s relationship with Drozass that would be so cute especially as she would be older than him.
