Fairy Tail Omnibus 1 by Hiro Mashima

Book Review

Title: Fairy Tail Omnibus 1 by Hiro Mashima

Genre: Manga, Fantasy, Humour

Rating: 4 Stars

Complete nostalgia from my early anime days, I haven’t kept up with this series but with the 100 year quest anime coming soon, I decided to dip back into this. The art style doesn’t quiet match my personal taste anymore but I can get over that just to get through it and you can power through the volumes quickly.

Honestly, most people know the plot of Fairy Tail but the transition back to early 2010’s shonen manga was so trippy considering a lot of the manga I have consumed recently is either cute romance or really dark. For example, Sweat & Soap is the sweetly romance I think I’ve ever read with a strange premise and Boy’s Abyss with is depressing s*** on top of even more depressing s***.

I did really enjoy revisiting some of my favourite characters who appear in the first three volumes. Some of my personal favs are Loki, since his storyline early on was amazing before he just kind of faded into the background. Aquarius because her storyline to this day completely breaks my heart and she also provides a lot of comic relief in the early series alongside Natsu and Gray. My top character though from the series in general would probably be Lauxus, Bixlow or Freed as their transition from being the “bad” good guys to true good guys was amazing and honestly they have some of the most unique abilities in the series.

Overall, I can’t recommend this series enough. While it is a longer series with close to 30 volumes in the main series and the various side quests and spin offs it is worth getting through them all or at least the main series. While there is a lot of magic and battles at its heart it is a manga about people and friendship which we can all relate to.
