Getting to Know You Book Tag

So I found this tag on the blog of Flippingthruthepages and I fancied doing it. I won’t be tagging anyone but feel free to leave your responses in the comments or link your blog posts at my Twitter @novellover97

Favourite Book of All Time

This question is so cruel as I have so many but if I had to choose it would obviously be Harry Potter – I have read it a million times and will read it a million times more especially to my children and grandchildren etc.

Favourite Book Five Years Ago

5 years ago was 2015 when I would have been deep in my Divergent, YA Dystopian phase but the most memorable book from that era for me that is still a guilty pleasure read for me would be Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Favourite Duology/Trilogy/Series

This one I can answer as one because I have a favourite duology, trilogy, and series. So I am breaking them up, my favourite duology would be the Monsters of Verity by V. E. Schwab as it is one of very few YA fantasy books that doesn’t feature a romance at all and I loved it for that.

The trilogy is controversial as it is no longer just a trilogy but when I read it for the first time there were only 3 books which is the Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K. Le Guin.

My favourite series most people would incorrectly say is HP but it is actually The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney and also by extension The Starblade Chronicles as well. I loved this series as a child and have recently re-read the series with only the final two books to go and I still love it. I loved how we follow a strong and capable male protagonist which is becoming rarer in fantasy I have found. Despite being young adult – meant for the younger people in that bracket – it gets very dark and gritty in places. Finally, even to this day Grimalkin – The Witch Assassin of the Malkin Clan – is my all time favourite character closer followed by Mia Corvere (she loses because she isn’t a witch).

Last Book You Read

The Mixtape of My Life by Jake Martinez which was a delightful LGBT read that I highly recommend.

Last Book of Poetry You Read

Something by Amanda Lovelace or Dear Wallflower by Sara Secora. While Amanda Lovelace’s work is a bit repetitive I did like it but Dear Wallflower was amazing and Sara Secora is such an underrated author, please check out my reviews of her stuff and give it a go.

What Book Most Influenced Your Life

This is a tie between Lucky and The Lovely Bones both written by Alice Sebold. The Lovely Bones dealt with the rape and murder of a teenage girl which really resonated with me at a dark point in my life and Lucky is the true story about the author’s journey of being raped and the recovery that follows.

Book That Made You Ugly Cry

I can count on one hand the number of books that have genuinely made me cry, not just well up. In order of how much they made me cry from the most to the least they would be; Lucky by Alice Sebold, One by Sarah Crossan, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling.

Book That Made You Laugh

I can think of even less book for this that I can for crying. My sense of humour is dark and dry so I rarely find books that resonate with me in that way. One of the only books I can think of is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and it is one scene that never fails to make me laugh – “My ghost won’t associate with your ghost.”

Character You’d Like To Be For a Day

This a hard one but it would probably be Feyre Archeron (I think I spelt that right) but during ACOMAF – so that I could tap Rhys’ sweet ass – because hot damn that man is sexy – WINGSPAN!

Book So Good You Dreamt About It

I can only recall of dreaming of one book in my lifetime and it wasn’t because it was good, it was because it induced a life long phobia of open water in me and that is Jaws by Peter Benchley.

Book You DNF’d

God I DNF so many books. I don’t like wasting my time in books that I am not 100% invested in but the last one was Ted Bundy’s Murderous Mysteries by Kevin Sullivan purely because if you are going to write a book about a well known events like these murders you have to either bring a new angle to it or present new information which Sullivan didn’t but the things I hated the most was each chapter was literally made up of witness statements from people involved at the time which was just boring.

What Book Are You Excited to Read

These are not new books despite there being many new releases I am excited for but the books I am most excited to read are Escaping From Houdini, Becoming the Dark Prince and Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco as I read Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula and loved them both immensely and I can’t wait to finish the series. I swear Thomas Cresswell is by spirit guardian.
