Title: Gifting Me to His Best Friend (A Touch of Taboo Book 2) by Katee Robert
Genre: Erotic, Romance
Rating: 5 Stars
After reading Your Dad Will Do I just had to binge read the rest of the series as soon as I could. All I knew about this book in the series is that it is a holiday romance featuring an M/M/F/ trio with some male on male action which had me really excited. We are introduced to Emma, her husband, Grayson and his best friend, Derek who are all on vacation together for Christmas. We can clearly see that despite being happily married both Grayson and Emma harbour an attraction to Derek and they even make jokes about it but they have never acted on these feelings and we can see that Derek finds both of them attractive too. One night while Emma and Grayson are getting it on in the bedroom they discuss the fantasy they have had where Grayson shares Emma which someone else but they have never done it because it wouldn’t be safe with a stranger but they both know Emma would be safe with Derek and they decide to present her as a Christmas present to him for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day only. However, Emma is worried it will affect their relationship as friends especially since Derek and Grayson are extremely close but they recognise that they are all adults at the end of the day and while deal with the aftermath as adults if there is any.
Seeing the first little scene between Emma and Derek was amazing but she is still insecure of what it would do to the friendships between them and rather than bottling up like some many romance protagonists do she talk openly with her husband about her fears and desires and he supports her through it all and constantly reinforces that if she isn’t ok with it, it isn’t going to happen at all despite how much he wants it to happen. Seeing the complete honesty between Derek, Grayson and Emma even when they are in the middle of fulfilling a fantasy was honestly so refreshing and the topic of consent is always brought up again and again not just for Emma but for all three of them. I did find it amusing how both Derek and Grayson try to deny their attraction to each other and Emma clearly sees that they are only acting on it because she is in the middle of them and she decides then that she will give Derek to Grayson as a present the same way he did with her as she finds the idea of them together just as arousing as being between them.
As Christmas Eve becomes Christmas Day, Emma is struck by the fact they only have 24 hours for the three of them to be together as she encourages Derek and Grayson to confront their feelings for each other and deal with the attraction between them. It is Derek who admits that there were times over the course of their lives that they almost got together but the timing never seemed right and it all ended when Grayson met her and Derek decided it was best never to speak of it and remain friends. However, a stroke of luck emerges when they get snowed in at the cabin and have no chance of making their flight home the next day which gives them more time to confront these feelings between the three of them. Watching the three of them together and struggle with the reality of separating when the holiday ends was fascinated as each of the characters struggle in their own way and watching them try to find a suitable compromise was interesting. By the time they can leave the cabin, Grayson and Emma want to pursue a relationship with Derek but he is apprehensive since he might be left out in the cold as Emma and Grayson already have a solid commitment to each other that he doesn’t have.
Seeing Derek make the decision to walk away from the despite their offer of a relationship was difficult but we understand his reasoning for this decision. Even though Grayson and Emma give each other permission to pursue Derek individually both decide against it because it wouldn’t feel right without all three of them being there. A few weeks later around New Years Eve, both Grayson and Emma are sad about losing Derek who hasn’t really had any contact with them. He turns up this night asking to talk and they do as Derek has decided he wants to pursue a relationship with them both and they agree. The final scene with Derek, Grayson and Emma ringing in the New Years was a delightful way to end the book especially after them talking about a long term commitment including children. Honestly, Katee Robert can’t write a bad book in my opinion and even the dialogue in this book was honestly and natural in a way I rarely see in erotic romance novels.
