Title: Lifelong Affair
Author: Yu Senke
Genre: Manga
Rating: ****
Review: Now the synopsis of Lifelong Affair is brilliant: “Morgan is in shock from the sudden news that her sister and her husband both died in a plane crash. And before she can even mourn, she is unexpectedly visited by Alex Hammond, her sister’s brother-in-law and CEO of the family company. Although they only met once at her sister’s wedding, she still remembers the strong impression he left on her. He reveals to her that there was, in fact, a single survivor from the crash—their new-born nephew, of whom Morgan and Alex have been appointed legal guardians! But can they overcome their vast differences to raise this baby together, or will this new family shatter under the pressure?”
Morgan meets Alex for the first time since her sister’s wedding after she learns that her sister Glenna and her husband Mark Hammond are killed in a plane crash and Glenna was around 7 months pregnant at the time. Both heartbroken by their lost Morgan and Alex don’t get along especially as he comes across as quite cold and unfeeling.
Alex tells Morgan that there was a survivor of the crash, the baby Glenna was carrying a little boy she named Courtney after her father before her death. However, as the Hammond family is a rich and influential one, they want to keep Courtney in England but as both Alex and Morgan are named as guardians, she wants to be part of his life. The pair argues frequently about Courtney’s future and in the end, Alex proposes that they get married so they can both raise Courtney together in America.
However, the Hammond family greatly disapproves of this particularly Alex’s mother Rita and his sister Janet. As the pair get engaged and prepare to raise a child between them Janet worms her way in making Morgan believe that Alex is actually Courtney’s father not Mark and it drives a real wedge between the would-be parents.
In the end, it comes to light that Rita and Janet weren’t being cruel for the sake of it but purely because they had some misconceptions about Morgan and felt that it was in Courtney’s best interest to stay with them. In the end, Morgan and Alex get married and raise Courtney between them with the promise that he will know all about his parents and what wonderful people they were. A really touching story that made me tear up.
