Title: Loving the Beast (Beauty #5)
Author: Skye Warren
Genre: Erotic/Romance
Rating: *****
Review: Loving the Beast is the last book in the Beauty series and I am sad to see it end, however, the synopsis did intrigue me as this book involves a visit to Blake’s family who we haven’t seen or heard much of throughout the entire series and it is making me wonder why. The opening scenes of this book are heartbreaking as we witness one of Blake’s nightmares and what truly haunts him and how these will never go away and Erin understands that. They are heading to Blake’s parents home the following morning, however, I did notice an inconsistency here, in previous books it has been stated that Erin’s mother worked for Erin’s ex Doug’s parents, not Blake’s and yet this had suddenly changed in the last book possibly to add more drama and tension to the visit than there needs to be.
I am glad Skye Warren changed this detail though as this novel had much more emotional weight than the rest of the series combined. I was pleased that Blake’s PTSD never goes away in the course of this novel, it is a part of him that Erin lives with even though it scares her at times but she’s brave because she knows that Blake needs the support during those times. Blake’s parents are a different story though, I straight up hate his mother, she is entitled, rude and the most vile human being I have ever met. His father is a lot like Blake and I really admired his honesty throughout the novel. It turns out that Blake’s father had an affair with Erin’s mother and he did love her, but when his wife find out about the affair he was too much of a coward to stand up for the woman he loved which is why Sophia lost her job and why Belinda treats Erin with such disdain through their entire visit. Jeb is a darling and I can understand why his and Sophia’s relationship didn’t work because he was married and she felt guilty that she had sacrificed her job and the ability to take care of her daughter for that relationship but this really highlights the contrast between Blake and his parents.
The last part of Loving the Beast was the best for me as we get to see the wedding between Blake and Erin. Blake’s impatience during the ceremony was amazing and him asking how long before they can leave really emphasised how much he needed her and how he couldn’t live without her. This ending was satisfying although I was hoping for a baby reveal myself but overall, I loved Loving the Beast and the Beauty series in general.
