Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

I am little late for this tag but I wanted to do it anyway.

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2021

This for me would be a tie between Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames which I have read 3 times this year already and I am planning at least one more re-read before getting into Bloody Rose or My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell which absolutely blew me away.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2021

So as my people will know I am majorly behind on my series this year but I’d probably have to go with either Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare or A Beautifully Foolish Endeavour by Hank Green.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

There are so many books I could put down for this but my top three newish releases would be Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson, The Tower of Fools by Andrzej Sapkowski or Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne.

Most Anticipated Released for the Second Half of the Year

I don’t have too many new releases as I tend to be a backlist reader to avoid the hype but there are a couple that stand out to me. All of us Villains by Amanda Foody, Vespertine by Margaret Owen and Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco.

Biggest Disappointment

This was a hard one but it will have to be Soul of Cinder by Bree Barton or Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust as I DNF’d both of these at less than 50%.

Biggest Surprise

I have a few here, Kings of the Wyld for sure as I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did but I’ve already mentioned that one. My top three here would be The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost because it was just divine, The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie as I’ve put off this book for so long and I don’t know why it was a solid 5 stars read for me and The Black Dagger Brotherhood which I am 5 books into and they’ve all been great.

Favourite New Author

This again would be a huge tie between Nicholas Eames, Joe Abercrombie and Andrzej Sapkowski all amazing fantasy books that I have been loving and yet put off for so long.

Newest Fictional Crush

I have so many it is unreal but the three popping into my head would be Sand dan Glokta, Galedon and Jem Carstairs.

Newest Favourite Character

Probably Clay Cooper by a mile, he is funny, insightful and a riot to follow in Kings of the Wyld but also Carl from The Carls duology by Hank Green.

A Book That Made You Cry

Books don’t often make me cry but there have been a couple this year. The first is My Dark Vanessa I wept from beginning to end, The Coward by Stephen Aryan was a similar situation were I cried for most of the books and obviously Clockwork Princess, that ending killed me.

A Book That Made You Happy

I can’t pinpoint a book that made me happy but some books I really enjoyed reading were The Loop and The Block by Ben Oliver and the Murderbot Series which I only have 2 books left to go.

The Most Beautiful You’ve Bought This Year

I don’t define beautiful covers the same way as most people for me the simpler the cover the better so my favourites would probably have to be The Blade Itself, The Way of Kings and Crave by Tracy Wolff.

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year

So many! My Goodreads goal this year is 250 books and I am currently at 133 so I have to read a lot but I am hoping to get up to date with The Stormlight Archvies, The First Law Universe and at least start the Wheel of Time series.
