My Lover is a Murderous Demon by D. S. Gramme

Book review

Title: My Lover is a Murderous Demon

Author: D. S. Gramme

Genre: Dark Romance

Rating: ****

Review: This story is only 26 pages long, but the title really grabbed me. The follows Aria who seems to be the murderous demon, one night the unsuspecting Shigeru witnesses her killing three men and while she tries to kill him, he manages to evade her blade surprising Aria. Despite everything, he invites her to dinner when Shigeru is beaten up by some local thugs which further surprised Aria as she knows he is a skilled swordsman, but he invites her back for dinner the following night which I have a feeling that despite her harsh words she will accept. During this scene, we learn Aria works as an assassin of sorts for Lord Oboro and he is intrigued by Aria’s relationship with Shigeru and decides to see what comes of it.

As the relationship between Aria and Shigeru develops there are many things that try and prevent them from being together, but they manage to overcome them. However, throughout the whole story, we feel that there is something not quite right with Shigeru so when we learn he is also a demon it isn’t actually that surprising. The ending of My Lover is a Murderous Demon was extremely dark given the tone of the rest of the story and it didn’t quite sit right with me, but I still enjoyed the story overall and felt it would have worked well as a full-length novel if Shigeru had been human.
