Title: Nerdgasm (Naughty Nerds Book 0.5) by Kimberly Reese

Genre: Romance, Erotic

Rating: 4.75 Stars

I didn’t know much about Nerdgasm before picking it up other than it features an experienced female and an inexperienced male which is something I have been missing in my smut lately so I was excited to get into it. We are introduced to Theodore initially when he is a child as his mother is concerned over his stutter which developed after the death of his father and has gotten worse as he got older. His mother is told there is nothing wrong with Theo and he might grow out of it like most children do but he might not but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We jump forward to when Theo is 23 and he is a still a shy, nerdy boy with a stutter but he is becoming a teaching assistant for a professor named, Cohen. We are also introduced to his best friend, Demi, but she isn’t the love interest as they grew up together and are more like siblings.

The love interest is Addison or Addy as she likes to be called, and she literally runs into Theo on the first day of class. Theo thinks she is very attractive from the beginning but he realises she is the only girl in the room that isn’t drooling over Cohen, the lead professor. Cohen comes across as a bit of a hard ass at first but he is completely justified in throwing two girls out of his class for making sexual comments about him and he isn’t afraid to call them out on it. Addy very quickly asks Theo out on a date after this as his shy personality means he isn’t going to ask her plus he is concerned over dating a student as that would create a conflict of interest within his working environment but it wouldn’t be as bad as if Cohen was dating a student in his class. The pair actually go to a local comic con event for their first date and Theo is surprised when Addy also turns out to be quite the nerd as she is obsessed with The Walking Dead.

The pair take their relationship very slowly at first because Theo is a virgin although he hasn’t told Addy at this point in the novel. Some of my favourite scenes outside of the bedroom scenes were the ones where Theo is teaching Addy to swim because it is something he really enjoys and he wants to be able to share it with Addy. Cohen throughout this period has become more of an older brother figure to Theo than a friend or collegue which was nice to see and when he notices something is up with Theo, Theo confides in him. He tells Cohen that he is dating one of their students and Cohen explains he will have to mark that person’s work as Addy isn’t mentioned by name as Cohen assumed that Theo was dating Demi. He also confides in Cohen that he is a virgin and Cohen ends up explaining the basics of oral sex to Theo which was anything but awkward and I praise Reese for being able to make this scene funny and hinting at what is to come in later books without stating it. Theo uses Cohen’s advice to great effect later on but we do get some conflict around the halfway mark.

On one of their dates, a bully from Theo’s past, Brock decides to make fun of Theo’s stutter which Addy finds cute and obviously she sticks up for him but when he draws her away they have an argument over why he didn’t defend himself and she really hurts Theo’s feelings leading to them taking a break. It falls to Demi to explain to Addy why Theo acted the way he did and get her to understand that Theo wasn’t letting Brock walk all over him but rather he was controlling the situation in the way he deemed best and it wasn’t for her to say that he should have had a direct confrontation when Theo isn’t comfortable with these kinds of encounters. Once Addy understands this, Demi agrees to help her set things straight with Theo and tells Addy that she and Theo are going to a toga party and arranges for Addy to bump into him there knowing Theo won’t be able to say now to her. At the party, nothing goes smoothly when Brock decides to reappear and harass Addy.

Theo sees this and immediately intervenes, punching Brock in the face before making him experience what it is like to be bullied which was karma in full effect. As many people see a different side to Theo here it changes their perception of him and he seems to be opening up his friend group after he gets over his own insecurities. The pair talk and Addy apologises for her behaviour, the sex scene doesn’t happen straight away but months later on Theo’s birthday and it was a perfect scene. We jump forward a little more and learn that Theo’s confidence has built both in the classroom and in the bedroom which was delightful to see. I am so excited for the next book as it is going to be following Cohen and Demi and I can’t wait to see what this pair get up to. Highly recommended.
