Never Blamed by Sabrina Kade

Book Review

Title: Never Blamed

Author: Sabrina Kade

Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance

Rating: *****

Review: So, I have read everything available in Sabrina Kade’s Rebels of Sidyth series so when I heard she was starting a new sci-fi alien romance series I could wait to get my hands on an ARC. I don’t know a lot about Never Blamed but I can’t wait to see where Kade takes this series and what kind of world she is going to create. Never Blamed follow Hollis and Chimase and their romantic adventures. It seems that Never Blamed is going to be set in the same universe as the Rebels of Sidyth series as the opening line is: “I’m first human woman Chosen by an influential Sidyth. This is my story.” Reading this I honestly got goosebumps, I have never been a fan of alien romance novels until I found the Rebels of Sidyth series and now I am hooked.

It turns out like the girls in the Rebels of Sidyth series Hollis belongs to a Sidyth but not as a Chosen but as a slave. We learn that she lives on Sidetha, the fatherland, owned by an older Sidyth named Soh. In his won way I do believe that Soh loves Hollis as his own Chosen died but their relationship is more about dominance than care. It is one afternoon while out shopping that Hollis meets Chimase as he is being chased by a Sidyth female; Vydeka. He is the first Sidyth that has paid any attention to Hollis and even asks Soh if she is for hire which enrages him as he owns her.

We learn that Chimase is part of the influential Etansyl family and while he doesn’t ask for Hollis again and she avoids him like the plague, she does encounter Vydeka again. Vydeka believes that Chimase is her Chosen mate and isn’t happy with his interest in Hollis. Vydeka takes her frustrations out on Hollis and while Chimase tries to stop her running away from them Hollis is hit by a vehicle of some sort. When she wakes in the hospital, she learns that Soh has sold her contract to the hospital meaning she has to go back to the auctions which are basically brothels. Hollis doesn’t want to believe this but Chimase has bought her contract and in order to calm Vydeka down, Hollis claims that she is going to go back to Soh once she explains herself and convince him to move but I have a feeling that Chimase isn’t going to let go of her that easily. Chimase is also the first Sidyth from the fatherland that seems genuinely interested in learning about Hollis and humans and reminds me a lot of Korben.

As we cross into the second half of the novel, Hollis is now living with Chimase, but humans are seen as bottom feeders and being close to Chimase is dangerous for her especially with females like Vydeka around. While Hollis never liked Soh or living on Sidetha, Soh is familiar, and Hollis can work with familiar while this environment and aliens are new, so she is constantly on guard. However, Chimase hasn’t tried to do anything so far, he is just curious about Hollis, but she can’t help the way she reacts to him. Despite being away from the familiarity of Soh, Hollis feels like an equal round Chimase like she matters, and I can definitely see a relationship forming between the pair. Despite all this Hollis is so conflicted, she knows that Soh is safe and familiar while Chimase is an unknown that she isn’t willing to take a chance on until she is sure he completely safe. Given his position in Sidyth society and the fact Vydeka is constantly hounding him doesn’t go in his favour.

Overall, I really loved Never Blamed and I will be reading the sequel Never Tamed as soon as I can. I have a feeling that this series might overlap with the Rebels of Sidyth series with Hollis and Chimase being the first Sidyth/human couple and it might even include their trials and the banishment of Prince Korben. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Hollis and Chimase turn up in the Rebels of Sidyth series and I can’t wait to read more.
