Never Have I Ever Faked a Boyfriend (Never Ever Love #2) by Juliet Bardsley

Book Review

Title: Never Have I Ever Faked a Boyfriend (Never Ever Love #2)

Author: Juliet Bardsley

Genre: Contemporary/Romance

Rating: *****

Review: I thought that this might be a continuation of Gavin and Kenzie’s story, but it seems we are following a new set of characters and this time around we are following Bri and Eric. The opening to Never Have I Ever Faked a Boyfriend was great, we learn that Bri is covering her mom’s yoga classes since her mother is helping do the final preparations for her sister’s wedding for which Bri still doesn’t have a date. Her best friend Savannah tells her that Eric, the guy she has had a crush on is recently single since her girlfriend Aryana dumped him for a college guy, which they learnt from Kenzie.

We then switch to Eric’s perspective who is pining over Aryana, but his best friend Sam tells him to move on and gets him chatting with Bri. It is Eric who comes up with the idea that they should fake date, as it would get Savannah and Bri’s mother off her back and Sam off his and provides him with an opportunity to make Aryana jealous, but I just know one or both of them is going to catch feelings along the way.

As we approach the halfway mark in the novel, Eric and Bri are having a hard time coming to terms with boundaries and the terms of their fake relationship. Eric is finding it hard because Bri is exactly type of person he should be with, but he has so much history with Aryana it is blinding him and Bri tells him so when she asks why he chose her. Bri is finding it difficult because she is struggling to separate fantasy from reality, but I like the awkward chemistry between the pair.

As we cross the halfway mark in the novel, Bri and Eric are avoiding their feelings but whenever Aryana is on the scene it is clear to tell that despite their history Eric doesn’t really want to be with her and he wants to be with Bri. Aryana is the typical cheerleader type of girl, cruel and self-centered and doesn’t really care about anyone but herself and uses everyone even Eric to make herself about better.

As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel, Bri and Eric go to Aryana’s party and I had a bad feeling from the beginning and I was right when Aryana makes a move on Eric and he rejects her, she kisses him which Bri sees. Running away from the party without letting Eric explain it seems their relationship has ended before it began but Eric isn’t going to give up and with Sam’s help, he is going to make a grand gesture at the Spring Fling to get her back.

As we cross into the final section of the novel, everything works out just like it always does in these kinds of novels and I loved every second of it. While this book wasn’t as long or in-depth are Kenzie and Gavin’s story, I really enjoyed reading about Bri and Eric. If you are looking for a quick, cute contemporary read then I highly recommend this book.
