Title: Newborn on Her Doorstep

Author: Yuki Mizusawa (Illustrator) & Ellie Darkins

Genre: Manga

Rating: *****

Review: Newborn on her Doorstep revolves around Lily finding an abandoned baby on her doorstep, who happens to belong to her estranged sister whose whereabouts are currently unknown. On the same day, she finds the baby she meets her best friend Kate’s brother Nic who Lily has an instant connection with. He is even the person that suggested that she take the baby to the hospital to make sure the child is healthy.

However, there is something off about Nic as he mentions he has bad memories and they seem to surface around the baby making Lily wonder what those memories are. Due to her home being renovated Kate moves Lily and baby Rosie into her brother’s flat, however, when Nic’s trip is postponed he also has to live with Lily and Rosie. He confessed that he is attracted to Lily but can’t be with her because of the baby.

Nic confesses that when he was 19, he had a girlfriend and a son called Max but at 3 weeks old Max died of SIDS and he and his girlfriend spilt up because they couldn’t cope with the pain. However, things get complicated when Lily’s sister Helen ends up in hospital wanting to see her child, but Lily isn’t sure whether it is the right thing to do but there is no one to take care of Rose until Nic agrees despite his fears.

While they try to make a relationship work things are hard for Nic as memories surface from time to time but it really drives a wedge between Nic and Lily. However, in true Harlequin/Mills and Boon fashion there is a wonderfully happy ending that was just delightful.
