October Wrap Up

Hey guys, I am so sorry for posting this so late but life has been mental lately. So, October was a really bad month for me as I only read 5 books and 3 of them were re-reads. November isn’t going to be much better as I am in a reading slump so I haven’t read anything this month yet. However, with Christmas around the corner and tons of pre-orders are going to be delivered that will be a much better reading month for me.

A Shiver of Snow and Sky by Lisa Lueddecke – On the frozen island of Skane, the sky speaks. Beautiful lights appear on clear nights, and their colours have meaning: Green means all is well, and the Goddess is happy. Blue means a snow storm is on the way. And then there’s red. Red is rare. A warning. Seventeen years ago the sky turned red just as Osa was born, unleashing a plague that claimed the lives of hundreds of villagers, including her own mother. This time, when the night sky once again bleeds crimson, she must discover what it means before so many lives are lost again.

2. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson – All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire, and Elisabeth is implicated in the crime. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them. As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

3. Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean – In each generation, a competition is held to find the next empress of Honoku. The rules are simple. Survive the palace’s enchanted seasonal rooms. Conquer Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, and you can marry the prince. All are eligible to compete – all except yokai, supernatural monsters and spirits whom the human emperor is determined to enslave and destroy. Mari has spent a lifetime training to become empress. Winning should be easy. And it would be if she weren’t hiding a dangerous secret. Mari is a yokai with the ability to transform into a terrifying monster. If discovered, her life will be forfeit. As she struggles to keep her true identity hidden, Mari’s fate collides with that of Taro, the prince who has no desire to inherit the imperial throne, and Akira, a half-human, half-yokai outcast. Torn between duty and love, loyalty and betrayal, vengeance and forgiveness, the choices of Mari, Taro and Akira will decide the fate of Honoku.

4. Aquarius by A P Morgan – Leslie’s first case threatens to end her career, but she’s got a plan. There something else motivating him to commit murders and the reporters are starting to call him the ‘Aquarius Killer’. Why? Unsure of her new skills as detective Leslie teams up with Ryan, making what should be a dynamic duo, yet this madman is one step ahead of them at every turn. Can a psychic’s cryptic warning save the day before he strikes again?

5. Pisces by A P Morgan – Leslie Boxe believed the “Birthday Killer” to be dead, and the case closed… until a mysterious note left on her desk at the station hinted otherwise. Whoever sent the haunting message seems obsessed with her and her partner, Ryan Fox. With Ryan out of town, Leslie must convince him to join the search for their stalker out of fear a madman is still on the loose. Detective Jesse Burns feels he’s being watched. It began after a rash of unexplainable suicides. Unable to determine if the deaths were part of some suicide cult or an internet challenge gone wrong, Burns knows there is something he’s missing. With the threat looming of more bloody birthday surprises to come, the team of detectives must join forces to piece together the puzzle and uncover the truth. Are they dealing with a copycat, or is the real killer watching and waiting for his moment to strike?
