Rogue Prince (Vampire Princess #3) by Cameron Drake

Book Review

Title: Rogue Prince (Vampire Princess #3)

Author: Cameron Drake

Genre: YA/Paranormal/Romance

Rating: *****

Review: The opening to Rogue Prince was interesting after the cliffhanger at the end of Royally Cursed but the stakes are getting higher for Sasha and she must put her heart aside in order to do what is right for her people, and the people she cares about. With a bond with both Dylan and Maxim, she can hear their thoughts and feel their emotions and she is especially conflicted over Maxim’s return given the revelations in Royally Cursed. Sasha also has gained the ability to give other people gifts or bring out gifts they already have, we see this when she gives Caleb the gift of darkness and brings out Dylan’s gifts which are also developing at a rapid pace.

When Sasha learns she is going to spend some time with other vampires and try and convert them to her cause she is nervous as she has lived most of her life in the human world rather than as a vampire Princess. When she arrives at the Cotswolds family estate, she immediately senses something is off, and Maxim confirms this when he mentions that the Cotswolds currently play for both sides of the war and Sasha is a prize to be won. However, she holds her own against the ancient vampires even during a hunt and surprises them with the ability to control her thirst and not have to drink blood often to survive. Despite this the excitement ramps up when Phoebe tries to kill Sasha and she is forced to reveal that she is part angel as well as part human and part vampire, which has made her a real target but won her a new bodyguard.

When she manages to turn the vampire to her cause, Maxim is impressed with her and the tension between them seems to be lessening but with her, Maxim and Dylan all connected any form of privacy is hard to come by. Things are just getting more difficult for Sasha as the time for war is getting closer, her feelings for both Maxim and Dylan are interfering in everything and the ex-cheerleader from school who has it out for her just happens to be a werewolf, who bite is poisonous to vampires. Despite all this Sasha is seeming like she is moving towards a romance with Maxim purely because Maxim, unlike Dylan, can endure the oncoming war as he has enhanced abilities with the advantage of supernatural healing which Dylan doesn’t have. It seems like Sasha is keeping Dylan at a distance to keep him safe which leaves an opening for Maxim.

Together Maxim teaches Sasha about feeding outside the supervision of Caleb and Bernard and they have a real heart to heart about the relationship they share and the relationship they share with Dylan and what it means with the oncoming war. However, the best scene by far was Sasha drinking from Christopher; a young man who has a heart defect who Sasha heals with her blood and sets everything up to take care of him in the future which was beautiful to watch, and I can’t wait to see where that goes. The ending of Rogue Prince was brilliant and really showed off what this series could do, and I honestly can’t wait to read book 4 as soon as I can.
