Book Review
Title: Secrets We Hunt by Dana Isaly (One Night Book 2)
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic, Romance
Rating: 4.5 Stars
After reading the synopsis I don’t know why I didn’t read this immediately because besides Jack, Wes was my favourite character in the first book and this is his story. We are also getting to see more of Jack and Quin since the women Wes was involved with Zoe, is at Jack and Quin’s wedding meaning someone that wasn’t Wes invited her. This is labelled as a childhood friends to lovers which is one of my favourite romance tropes of all time next to enemies to lovers and I can’t wait to see how Isaly handles this. The opening scene between Zoe and Wes was adorable and really sets up the friendship they had and how Wes was developing feelings for her but didn’t want to ruin their friendship but I also felt that Zoe was holding something back from Wes which might be the reason she left without telling him but then we jump forward to the present at Jack and Quin’s wedding.
Since the wedding in on boat Wes and Zoe eventually run into each other and he learns that she is Quin’s best friend and has to tread carefully but he isn’t willing to let her go a second time without knowing why she left him in the first place. At first, Zoe doesn’t want to talk about the past but she is more than willing to have a sexual relationship with Wes but he wants more than that and she knows it but she doesn’t think she will be able to give it to him. Eventually she does tell him that his uncle made her leave after threatening her and he is already planning violence but I have a feeling there is more going on there.
Eventually after trying to run away for a second time, Wes learn that Zoe was raped by his uncle and now he is plotting a murder and she finally opens herself up to him. The sex scenes were amazing as always but I was glad to see Wes taking a more submissive role even allowing Zoe to finger him which isn’t something you see often in heterosexual relationships in erotic and it was so refreshing to see a man comfortable enough with his sexuality to take that role. Overall, I loved Wes and Zoe’s relationship but again I wish it had been a little longer but that ending definitely made up for it. Now I think the next story is Owen’s who we learn in this book has been married off by his family which may or may not be related to the mafia and I’m looking forward to that.
