Sweat and Soap, Vol. 1 by Kintetsu Yamada

Book Review

Title: Sweat and Soap, Vol. 1 by Kintetsu Yamada

Genre: Manga, Comedy, Romance

Rating: 5 Stars

I was recommended this series by a friend and while it has been on my TBR for a while I didn’t pick it up until I binge read Wotakoi recently and was in the mood for more comedy, workplace romances. Sweat and Soap is definitely like Wotakoi but with a more mature feel to it since it isn’t as PG rated. We are following Asako, who deals with a sweating issue that causes her a lot of anxiety and she constantly carried out deodorant and other products so people don’t notice. One day she is literally ambushed by Koutarou Natori, a perfume developer at the same company, Lilia Drop who is enchanted by her scent.

Since Asako’s scent inspires Natori and she wants to company to do well she agrees to his strange request of smelling her for the next week leading up to a big presentation. The comedy during this week is amazing since Natori is very enthusiastic about this while Asako is anxious to the max. By the end of the week, Asako is prepared to go separate ways despite her attraction to Natori until he makes a move on her. The pair do end up sleeping together and the next day is a little awkward because neither knows how the other is going to react and leads to some funny moments.

Asako’s anxiety does get the better of her and she loses confidence in herself and Natori’s affection towards her which causes her to run away. Things get worse when rumours of a pervert on the train who likes smelling people is going around. Asako assumes this is Natori but is proven wrong when he saves her from that exact person and ends up sleeping with her again after the distance forced between them. After this feelings are confessed between the pair although they decide to keep their relationship a secret for now because Asako isn’t as confident as Natori and he is supportive of this. I can’t wait to dive further into this series and more like it.
