Title: Sweat and Soap, Vol. 11 by Kintetsu Yamada
Genre: Manga, Comedy, Romance
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 11 is the last in the series and this was all about the final preparations leading up to the wedding taking place the same weekend as Asako’s birthday as agreed. The meetings with their overly eutheastic wedding planner were amazing and get both Natori and Asako fired up. While the official ceremony comes later they do file the necessary paperwork beforehand and Asako changes her last name to Natori which was so cute especially when Kotaro (I can’t call him Natori anymore) sees it on her work ID for the first time.
Everything about the wedding was a delight to witness from the ceremony to the vows, to the speeches that came after. However, the day leaves the pair completely worn out especially since they put in so much time at work beforehand and have to go back to the grind shortly after since they have opted not to take their honeymoon right away since they are more focused on trying to start a family.
Unlike Wotakoi, my second favourite series now, we do get a baby bomb dropped but it isn’t left there as we get a chapter about what happened after. We get to see Asako through her pregnancy dealing with severe morning sickness, feeling the baby kick for the first time. Towards the end of her pregnancy she goes into labour ten days early which Kotaro is away for work and by the time he arrives she has already given birth to a healthy baby girl who they both immediately adore. We also get to see a brief snapshot of when their daughter is two years old and loves soaps the same way her mother and father do brining the story full circle and I cried at this ending as it was wholesome and so complete yet left me wanting more. While this series doesn’t have an anime adaptation yet I am hoping for one in the future since many romance anime are doing really well right now.
