Sweat and Soap, Vol. 5 by Kintetsu Yamada

Book Review

Title: Sweat and Soap, Vol. 5 by Kintetsu Yamada

Genre: Manga, Comedy, Romance

Rating: 5 Stars

In volume 5 we get to see Natori and Asako celebrate their first Christmas together which means they have been together for over six months now and they are making solid plans to move in together. These scenes of them planning and discussing what would suit each of them in their new home were so adorable it literally makes you melt at times especially with the way Asako and Natori bounces off each other.

Seeing Natori open up about his family especially his mother’s blindness and his relationship with her made my heart hurt especially when we learn his previous girlfriends saw his mother as a burden to them whereas Asako sees it as her being a burden to his mother. They also discusses meeting Asako’s parents and that is scheduled for New Year’s which is an anxious time for both Asako and Natori. Asako’s family immediately accepts Natori because of his honest and open nature which is a relief for both although Asako’s father does bring up the topic of marriage. This puts Natori on edge but Asako immediately steps in and explains that Natori is waiting for her to be ready for marriage not the other way around. That lap pillow scene also warmed me to the core since it shows a lot of trust in a partner to sleep on them but we also see their trust level building all the time.

By the end of this volume the pair are rushing to get an apartment before their leashes are up and all the good places are gone. The first one they go an view isn’t any good because there is a barbeque restaurant nearby and the smoky smell isn’t good for Natori’s sensitive nose. However, the second seems to be perfect for them except for the fact it has one bedroom not two but the estate agent gives them tips on making the space work and they snap it up.
