Title: Sweat and Soap, Vol. 7 by Kintetsu Yamada
Genre: Manga, Comedy, Romance
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 7 sees Asako and Natori living together for over a month now and they are beginning to settle in and find their feet with each other. Natori’s thoughts throughout this volume really were the highlight and hilarious to boot. With their anniversary only a few weeks away now they decide to go and visit Natori’s parents and Asako is really nervous, possibly more nervous than Natori meeting her parents which means her anxiety level is through the roof.
Natori’s younger sister puts Asako at ease because she reminds her of Ichise from work and the exact opposite of her younger brother, Keita. Her first meeting with his parents goes really well and Natori’s mother is amazing and really enlightens Asako and makes her more confident in her own abilities. The representation of blindness in this volume was amazing as Natori’s mother is portrayed as being disable. In fact, she is shown to be extremely capable as she does a lot of the household chores including cooking. When Asako asks her about this she is honest and explains it was hard at first and she needed a lot help but eventually she adjusted and her life almost returned to normal when that happened.
Asako feels right at home with Natori’s family and feel accepted by them even though she is very different from Natori personality wise. When they leave she is both happy, that everything went well, but sad, because she hasn’t really felt like that outside of her own family. The highlight was this volume for me was the scene where the pair try to get it on in his parent’s home only to put off by Natori’s father moving around and it made me laugh out loud.
