Book Review

Title: Tempt Me by K. A Tucker (Wolf Hotel Book 1)

Genre: Romance, Erotica

Rating: 4 Stars

I have seen this series around on TikTok a lot recently and I decided to pick it up because the books are quite short. We are introduced to Abbi Mitchell when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her and breaking up with her shortly after. Her family assume she will get back together with Jed after he gets it out of his system because they were engaged and while this is demanded on Abbi due to he religious background she knows she won’t go back to him, especially after he begins opening dating this new girl much to her mother’s fury. With summer approaching, Abbi knows she doesn’t want to return to her homeland where Jed will be and begins looking for other options.

As we approach the 1/4 mark in the novel, Abbi ends up interviewing for a job in the Wolf Hotel chain but doesn’t think she will get it because she doesn’t have the experience or look the hotel would want. However, she does get the job giving her four months in Alaska away from her life and here for the first time she is free. Despite their being a mix up with the job as she applied for the outdoor team but is assigned to housekeeping, she meets some great girls who she begins bonding with. After getting drunk for the first time, she looks her glasses in the bay and she is practically blind without them. She is saved from falling in by a rugged lumberjack who engages in flirtatious banter with her. This lumberjack turns out to be her boss, Henry Wolf and she is mortified but intrigued about possibly losing her virginity to him.

As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, Abbi ends up being helped by Henry getting her some outdoor work which she is grateful for. However, the meeting the next morning isn’t with the outdoor team but Henry himself which sends anxiety through Abbi especially after she got off thinking of Henry the night before. He takes her onto his land to cut wood and the pair talk while they do it developing an almost friendship but it doesn’t diminish the attraction between them. Their day is interrupted by a grizzly bear rolling in, but during it Abbi was able to learn that Henry personally hired her after his team passed her over and it had something to do with her interview tape.

As we approach the halfway mark in the novel, Abbi spends the rest of the day in housekeeping before she is called aside by Belinda who tells her she is assigned to Penthouse One on Henry’s order. She learns as much as she can before she passes out but when she turns up the next morning she is nervous. However, it turns out to be Henry’s room and he is hiring her as his personal assistant which completely floors Abbi but she ends up accepting. During that first day she proves herself to be exactly what Henry is looking for. During this she overhears a conversation between Belinda and Henry which hint at their history together and his intentions in hiring Abbi which crushes her but it doesn’t stop her watch Henry get off in the shower.

As we cross into the second half of the novel, Abbi is taking to her new role but fears being fired for spying on Henry in the shower. That turns out to not be the case and Abbi seems to be picking up on the fact that Henry is teasing her because he enjoys watching her squirm. However, when Henry’s masseur offers Abbi a massage, Henry is obviously furious but we can feel the tension building between them and I was wondering when it was going to break. In the meantime, Abbi is doing normal assistant things but also building a friendship with Henry, learning about his life like the fact he’s colourblind and has a brother. She also receives news from home which throws her situation into perspective and I am eager to see how it plays out.

As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel, we finally get to see the tension between Henry and Abbi build to its boiling point and I was so invested in this couple. By the time anything happens between them we have been waiting for it from the first night when Abbi drunkenly hit on him. The scene itself was well paced and written without actually introducing sex, it also established Henry’s dominant nature and Abbie’s submissive nature making me think other books might have more BDSM elements to them. I do know that the series is taking place of Abbie’s time in Alaska so I don’t think there will be a conflict towards the end of the book but it might surprise me. I don’t think it’s likely because the relationship hasn’t even really begun and it would be a predictable turn at this point so I hope the author does something a little different with the conclusion.

As we cross into the final section of the novel, I was eager to see how the book would conclude in the last 80 pages now Abbi and Henry have given into their desires. Seeing the relationship actually happen was amazing and that reveal/cliffhanger at the end had me dying for the next book but I have other things I need to read first. Overall, I actually really enjoyed the slow burn smut compared to smut that happens straight away as it allowed more time for character development which I really appreciated. While this book definitely played into some tropes I am not a fan of, I did end up enjoying it and will continue on with the series.
