The Devil’s Angel by Olivia Hawthorne

Book Review

Title: The Devil’s Angel

Author: Olivia Hawthorne

Genre: Romance

Rating: *****

Review: All I knew about this novel was that it follows Megan and Roman and it is going to be a good girl/bad boy romance. Roman is the head of a motorcycle club and Megan is a preacher’s daughter and I can’t wait to see how these pair get together. Megan accidentally ends up in the motorcycle club and gets attacked by the bikers only to be rescued by their leader Roman who is going to stop at nothing to see his angel again even if she is the preacher’s daughter. Because of where they come from and the people, they are everyone is trying to keep Roman and Megan apart despite them obviously wanting to be together and we see Megan slowly begin to change from a closed off preacher’s daughter to a strong, independent woman.

As Megan and Roman dance around each other mainly due to the influence of her family and another man after her; Bobby who happens to be a police officer not much happens between the pair. This changes when Roman sees Megan kissing Bobby and she sees him with another woman although both are misunderstanding and just as it seems we are getting to the good stuff Bobby arrives to arrest Roman on drug charges. While Megan is horrified by this Roman pleads with her that he isn’t that kind of man and that no matter what he will come back to her and for her to wait for him.

As we approach the halfway mark in the novel, Megan fights tooth and nail to get Roman out of jail and away from Bobby even if it means showing him who’s boss herself. After succeeding in her task she is finally able to be with Roman properly and she even manages to tame the beast he is. However, this comes at a cost as when Roman proposes and she accepts her parents basically disown her and it really hurts Megan that her parents, who were supposed to love her no matter what would turn their backs on her so easily, but she has found a new family in Roman and the Warriors. The couples engagement bliss doesn’t last, however, when Bobby’s father passes away and he is still set on revenge against Roman for stealing Megan away from him even when she never wanted him in the first place. Things take a darker turn though when Roman’s bike is stolen, and that bike is seen when someone burns down the church obviously trying to blame the bikers for it. This also has negative repercussions for Megan as it means her parents who she had been hoping to make amends with will be moving back to the city and away from her unless she goes with them, without Roman.

The ending of The Devil’s Angel was beautiful, and I really felt that these characters especially Roman and Megan’s parents really developed over the course of the novel. The character arcs are realistic, and the stakes are much higher than just on a romance level. The epilogue and the extended epilogue really made the ending come together seeing how not only Roman changed but Megan as well as the other bikers. Highly recommended.
