Title: The Gargoyle Prince (The Immortal Warriors Book 3) by Rebecca F. Kenney
Genre: Sci-Fi, Steampunk, Romance, Erotic
Rating: 3.5 Stars
The Gargoyle Prince is the third instalment in The Immortal Warriors series and I can’t wait to see how Kenney handled a literal stone man. We are following Noemie who is the third princess of Normandy in this French steampunk inspired novel, after several assassination attempts she is gifted a new bodyguard by her brother. The new bodyguard turns out to be a new type of gargoyle named Gideon. Noemie’s country has been locked in a war for a long time and while she understands the need to have Gideon around the pair don’t get along at first which was interesting to see and entertaining to read as there is a lot of banter between them.
The pair quickly learn they have to rely on each other if Gideon is going to protect Noemie especially after the death of her last bodyguard and friend, Jacqueline. Gideon finds himself attracted to Noemie but she doesn’t really view him as human for the longest time due to his appearance. However, Gideon does help Noemie work through her grief from Jacqueline while his original memories seem to be returning to him but he doesn’t know who he is yet. Gideon and Noemie do start sleeping together and we see in a change in Noemie as she becomes a stronger, more independent character in her own right which I really apricated.
The tension is ramped up when her brother learns of their relationship and tries to take Gideon away from Noemie and she has to save him. Noemie succeeds in doing this and also learning Gideon’s true identity as the Prince of the rival country who was murdered by her brother and she returns his memories to him. Gideon is obviously sad and angry about what happened to him but when they are find Jacqueline’s soul they come up with a plan to escape the palace. First they place Jacqueline’s soul into a gargoyle and promise to return for her after they escape the palace. They end up seeking out Noemie’s sister, the Crown Princess for help and she agrees to hear them out. After hearing their tale she agrees to help them and together they bring peace to the kingdoms. There is definitely a happy ending but it does take some time in getting there. Overall, I didn’t enjoy The Gargoyle Prince as much as Sleepy Hollow but it was still worth the read and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
