The Horseman of Sleepy Hollow (Immortal Warriors Book 1) by Rebecca F. Kenney

Book Review

Title: The Horseman of Sleepy Hollow (The Immortal Warriors Book 1) by Rebecca F. Kenney

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Erotic

Rating: 5 Stars

The Horseman of Sleepy Hollow is the first book in a standalone series, each book with the exception of Wendy, Darling and Captain Pan I believe are standalone novels based around mythology and legends. This book obviously follows the legend of the Headless Horseman but incorporates mythological creatures such as Dullahan as well which was an amazing touch and it is also pretty low on the smut side of things but what we do get is outstanding. We are following Katrina Van Tassel who is being pressured into marriage by her mother and has two key suitors, Brom Brunt and Ichabod Crane.

Katrina’s mother informs her that Brom is going to propose to her tonight and that she has to accept which sends Katrina into a spin but she spends the entire night teasing both of her suitor until Ichabod leaves. Katrina decides that if she has to marry one of them she would prefer Ichabod and goes after him but Brom is right behind her. When they catch up to Ichabod who has been thrown from his horse, Brom starts a fight with Ichabod who is obviously not match for Brom and is losing. Katrina steps in and decides to attack Brom who throws Ichabod at her, impaling him on a sharp branch and killing him. After this the Headless Horseman arrives and takes Katrina who has been injured in the fight while Brom runs away. Over the next few days Katrina heals in the Horseman’s home where she finds out more about him. She learns that he is a Dullahan under the control of his master, who can force him to kill people which he has no control over but she also delights in teasing him as he is attracted to her. Fate brings more answers as she learns the Horseman’s real name is Eamon and that his master is Brom’s mother and she has set everything up including the death of Ichabod so that Katrina will marry Brom.

By the time Katrina has healed enough to return home she has developed a connection with Eamon and doesn’t want to leave but she knows she must because her parents are grieving for her. However, there is a twist when Brom’s mother must have found out Katrina is with Eamon and order him to kill her which he can’t resist but Katrina manages to realise she can free Eamon but killing his master and does just that barely in time to escape with her life. After this Eamon and Katrina have to come to terms with the things they have done but Katrina does return home with Eamon and announces her intention to marry him which her father approves of. We get to see Eamon and Katrina get married but she also becomes his master in order to protect him and he will protect her in turn. The final scene of the first proper sex scene of the novel which was beautifully written and well placed to finish off the story. Overall, The Horseman of Sleepy Hollow was a wholesome romance with some steamy scenes that actually stuck close to the original legends and mythology which was refreshing to see and I will definitely be reading more of Kenney’s Immortal Warriors series very soon.
