The Pool Boy (Nashville Neighbours Book 2) by Nikki Sloane

Book Review

Title: The Pool Boy (Nashville Neighbours Book 2) by Nikki Sloane

Genre: Romance, Erotic

Rating: 3.25 Stars

I really enjoyed The Doctor but I’ve put off this series for some reason. I recently read rumours that this romance features an older women and a younger man which isn’t something I normally go for but I am excited to see what Sloane does with it. We are introduced to Erika who is currently going through a middle life crisis after finding her husband Clark cheating on her with his male boss, Derrick. Their divorce over the following ten months is very messy and she is struggling to move on with her life. Erika is also the neighbour of Dr. Lowe from the first book in the series and often finds herself jealous of his girlfriend and this is just Erika being a little lonely.

That is until her best friend, Jenna’s son, Troy catches her sunbathing without a top on. There is a mild spicy scene involving some mutual masturbation that follows this but nothing overly spicy yet. Erika is looking for an up and coming musical artist to support one of her client and at a local bar she hears Troy sing and encourages him to go for the audition but he refuses when she mentions they wouldn’t be able to have a relationship outside of a professional one. Erika asks to talk about and he explains it was Erika’s singing and playing that prompts him to learn to play the guitar and sing in order to impress her but she was still married at the time and he was a lot younger than he is now at 24. Here we get the first actual sex scene and it wasn’t as amazing as the ones early on in The Doctor but I am hoping they get better.

The Pool Boy wasn’t as dramatic or intense as The Doctor, the only source of drama comes from the cheating ex-husband returning and exposing Erika and Troy’s relationship but these issues are quickly fixed as Troy is older and is able to clearly make his own decisions whether or not the other people in his life support them. There is a little drama when Troy spends the night at Stella’s house and lies about sending Erika into a panic but it turns out they were working on a song together for him to perform during his set at Stella’s show. While there are some great sex scenes they were are passionate or frequently as the ones in The Doctor so I felt quite let down by The Pool Boy and I am hoping the final book, The Architect can claw it back for the series. Despite this, I will be reading more of Sloane’s work in the future as there are a few of her books on my TBR right now.
