Title: Titan (Romancing His Stone Book 1) by Jillian Graves
Genre: Romance, Erotic, Fantasy
Rating: 4 Stars
I was very surprised when I picked up Titan for the first time since most erotic fantasy novels tend to be on the shorter side and this one is novel length. We are introduced to Juliana who is a sugar baby meeting very rich men in order to make money since her mother has access to her money from her acting career and they are currently engaged in a legal battle over it. On one date that isn’t going well she is spotted by Titan, who is a gargoyle. Gargoyles are members of the Strange and have been on Earth for a long time looking for the Keystone, to achieve this they have a Pull that guides them in the general direction of it but they’ve never been able to lock it down. Titan believes that the man Juliana is on a date with knows someone who has the Keystone and ends up setting up a date with Juliana to get the information since the Keystone unlocks the Relic Room which was believed lost for a long time. The premise of the book was great and the introduction to the characters, relationships and setting was interesting and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
As we approach the ¼ mark in the novel, Titan pays Juliana a lot of money to meet him despite only talking to her briefly over the chat site. Juliana is obviously nervous at first but is quickly won over by how wealthy Titan is and there is an obvious attraction between the pair. During their date, Titan exploits Juliana’s desperation for money in order to gain the information and he does partially come clean explaining a made up reason for why he wants the Keystone since he is disguised as a human. Juliana agrees to give him the information for a price which Titan happily pays but he still wants her to spend the night and she agrees. There isn’t any sex yet but there is a lovely steamy scene but throughout this encounter Titan has been disguised as a human but when Juliana tries to steal his cloaking ring his true form is revealed to her and he has to explain things to her in order to get her to calm down. She ends up meeting Titan’s brothers and agrees to help them on a recon mission for the Keystone since she knows the industry and how to act whereas they done and she happens to be in the middle of this adventure to find the Keystone. Titan and Jules are also trying to deal with their attraction to each other but Titan has a meeting with the witches for help.
As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, one of Titan’s brothers is concerned that Juliana will be a distraction from their mission and Titan clearly states that she doesn’t mean anything to him and he will not be distracted. This is overheard by Juliana who is obviously upset but I have a feeling this exact conversation is going to lead to more steamy scenes between them really soon. So far, the pacing is strange since it started off really fast paced as these novels tend to move quickly and then slowed down far to much for my liking. Not much more happens between Titan and Jules sexually before the party but they do get to know more about each other although Jules seems to be developing an emotional bond to Titan that she believes is one-sided. At the party Titan senses another strange there and knows that the Keystone is definitely there but it’s on the floor above the party so Jules works her acting magic and gets them a private viewing from Freddy himself. In this situation Jules and Titan makes a great team but the overwhelming feel of the Pull is distracting Titan and Jules is having to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t do anything stupid even though it doesn’t seem in Titan’s nature to do anything stupid.
As we approach the halfway mark in the novel, Juliana distracts the guards so that Titan can get upstairs to the Keystone after talking with Freddy doesn’t get them the private viewing she expected. While Titan is searching for the Keystone, Jules is approached by Harris, the man her mother worked with to take all of Jules’ money and she is terrified of him. Titan knows he should be protecting her but the Pull won’t allow him to stop looking for the Keystone but he doesn’t eventually break free of it but he and Jules have to leave the party, leaving the Keystone behind. Despite this, Titan knows it is in Freddy’s possession and can seek it out later as right now he wants to help Jules. He takes her to a cave that he and his brothers used when they were in hiding and proceeds to have his way with Jules after she provokes him into fucking her despite wanting to be gentle with her. We can clearly see the bond developing and deepening between the pair despite both fighting it for different reasons and I hope they admit their feelings to each other soon as the sexual tension and angst is killing me.
As we cross into the second half of the novel, things are really starting to heat up, we get to see the first time between Jules and Titan and it isn’t the soft loving making you would imagine but raw, intense fucking. It is clear that Titan and Jules having feelings for each other and other characters are now beginning to notice them but neither of our main characters seem to want to do anything about it right now. After learning through Jules that her mother and Harris are still trying to get dirt on her for their court case, Titan begins looking into it himself and learns that Harris set up a fake profile on the sugar baby website in order to trick Jules into giving him the evidence he needs to take all of her money and Titan isn’t going to let that happen. Titan and one of his brothers end up going to Harris’ home he shares with Jules’ mother in order to destroy the evidence Harris has relating to the work Jules did in order to survive and when the man himself returns home Titan loses it. He shows Harris his true form and frightens the man, threatening to kill him unless he dropped the case and gave Jules her money but when he badmouths Jules, Titan attacks Harris slashing his face before they leave. Titan is also dealing with the knowledge that the strange he sensed at the party is a gargoyle, Maximus who is the one who betrayed their kind and started the chain of events that have left the remaining gargoyles where they are now and he can’t be allowed to get the Keystone before them.
As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel, Titan returns to the penthouse and has another session with Jules although this one is far more loving in nature than the previous rough sessions. However, the next morning she learns from a voicemail her mother left her about what Titan did and decides to end their arrangement right there and leave because as much as she hates Harris, Titan could have killed him. There is also the added element that Jules has worked for over a decade to win her money back and Titan took that from her without even realising it. She still agrees to get him into to Freddy’s part on Saturday but doesn’t want to see him outside that and he agrees out of respect for her. By the time the night of the party rolls around things are frosty between Titan and Jules but when they arrive at the party Titan realises something. While watching Jules interact with Freddy and another man who seem to want her attention, he realises that he no longer feels the Pull towards the Keystone only a Pull towards Jules which is going to make their mission difficult. When Freddy takes Jules upstairs, Titan all but abandons the mission leaving it in the hands of his brothers while he heads after Jules. I have no idea how the book is going to end since both the Keystone and Maximus’ arrival have taken a backseat to Jules and Titan’s relationship but since this is the beginning of what I presume is a companion series these might be larger plot points that get resolved later on.
As we cross into the final section of the novel, we get to see the final confrontation between Maximus who had been at the party in human form and followed Jules when she stole the Keystone. The fight between Jules and Maximus is completely one-sided but in the end Jules is victorious, she doesn’t win the fight as Titan comes for her but she completely fools Maximus into thinking he has the Keystone when she hid it under a car. Seeing the resolution between Jules and Titan was divine and seeing how well they got on afterwards and are really making their relationship work was divine although the Relic Room hasn’t reappeared for them to use the Keystone yet and Maximus is still out there somewhere. It is going to be a companion series and the next book is going to follow Rook and Eden which I am excited to see. Overall, if you are looking for a steamy, heart-warming and at times funny fantasy romance then I’d recommend Titan especially if you are familiar with the monster genre.
