Vulnerable AF by Tarriona Ball

Book Review

Title: Vulnerable AF by Tarriona Ball

Genre: Poetry, Romance

Rating: 4 Stars

Poetry is something I find personally difficult to review as there isn’t much you can say on the actual written work but rather what it made you feel and poetry surrounding romance tends to fall pretty flat for me but this one was intriguing. We are introduced to Tarriona “Tank” as she explains her relationship with Adam, a drummer. She explains that when she first meet him their relationship was doomed from the start as they could only communicate through a friend which is a huge red flag but she was overwhelmed by him. She goes on to explain how her infatuation and obsession with him equalled love in her mind.

The poems are broken up with Tarriona telling us about the real-life relationship that inspired her poems. Throughout the collection we can see Tarriona slowly coming to realise that the way she feels about Adam isn’t love, the way he treats her isn’t right and that this toxic relationship needs to end in order for her to move forward, progress and better herself. I really liked how Tarriona conveyed this especially since was pretty young when she was in this relationship and she mentions things that young girls should be on the lookout for when dating. Between the poems and stories we also get some amazing artwork which really highlights some of the points that Tarriona makes throughout the novel. Overall, this was a really short collection of poems that had quite a big impact on me.
