Book Review
Title: Wet Dream by Lexi Esme
Genre: Erotica, Romance
Rating: 3.75 Stars
After reading Threads of Fate by this author recently I couldn’t wait to get into another interracial, paranormal romance and it certainly didn’t disappoint. In this book we are following, Deonne who has been trapped in her relationship with Jerome and she has finally reached her breaking point and kicks him out. That night she has the strangest yet most delicious dream she can remember having but brushes it off the next morning when she wakes up.
She ends up speaking to a friend who sends her to a single mixer to find a rebound, to get her mind of Jerome and the end of their relationship and Deonne reluctantly agrees. It is at this mixer that she meets Rafael and the immediate chemistry between them is intense. They do end up going to bed that night where Deonne realises all the things she has denied herself but staying and putting up with Jerome’s behaviour. Rafael also seems eager to be with her and actually ends up taking her to Hawaii when she suddenly gets a week off work. These coincidences are strange to Deonne but she just continues to shrug it off but there is something going on with Rafael.
After their trip, Rafael wants to pursue a relationship with Deonne but she doesn’t feel that she is ready yet but decides to spend one last night with Rafael. However, they are interrupted as Jerome is in the apartment thinking that Deonne would take him back the way she has before but this time Rafael steps in to help her get rid off Jerome. That night she has another dream about Rafael and he informs her that she is in danger before Deonne wakes up. She realises that Jerome is in her apartment with a knife and he attacks her but Rafael is quick to appear and deal with him for good.
Rafael reveals here that he is in an incubus, a type of demon and that he sent Jerome to Hell. Rafael knows that Deonne might not want to be with him but she surprises him as all those strange things finally makes sense to her. The final sex scene and the morning after were both steamy and so sweet at the same time. Rafael has his soulmate, the only person who can sate his hunger and Deonne has the type of man she has always dreamed of who will treat her right no matter what. I did really like this book but the pacing seemed a little off and in places it felt like scenes were missing but the story doesn’t address them. Overall, it was great and was definitely smuttier than Threads of Fate but the other book has better pacing.
