Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otakus Vol 2 by Fujita

Book Review

Title: Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otakus Vol 2 by Fujita

Genre: Slice of Life, Romance, Manga

Rating: 5 Stars

The second omnibus volume of Wotakoi finishes off the anime content as well as the OVA specials which include Nao and Ko friendship as well as the backstory of how Kabakura and Hanako ended up together. I was really surprised that the anime only adapted two omnibus volume or four singular volumes out of the possible 11 and that despite its popularity it didn’t get a second season. That being said Yuri on Ice was incredibly popular while it was airing and it is only this year the movie was actually announced to come out so we might get more anime of Wotakoi in the future.

This volume had some incredibly funny moment such as Narumi accidently dragging Kabakura instead of Hirotaka onto a scary ride and the amusement park where both couples are on dates and this scence was perfectly adapted in the anime. We also get a lot more Nao content in this volume since he has become friends with an incredibly shy gamer named Ko, who he assumes is a boy and even uses the male honorific of kun but Ko is actually a girl. She spends a lot of time teaching now how to play games with a patience he isn’t used to since Hirotaka used to get mad at how bad he was and Ko is even starting to become a part of the group.

The backstroy arc on Kabakura and Hanako was beautifully as they were both captains of their respective volleyball teams although Hanako was a year below Kabakura and the pair have been fighting since the day they met. However, they formed a bond through volleyball and being secret otaku and when it comes time for Kabakura to graduate neither can let the other go despite how much they get on each other nerves. Overall, I really enjoyed this volume but I am even more excited to get into the content that the anime didn’t adapt and see what happened to my favourite characters.
