Review: As I mentioned in my review of A Worthy Opponent, we get a lot of context in that book about this one. What we know so far is this book follow Gaeton, Beast and Isabelle. Through Tink and Hook in the previous book we learn that both Gaeton and Beast wanted Isabelle and were in a relationship until she chose one of the them and she couldn’t which is why they aren’t together and it would also explain the very volatile and violent interactions between Beast and Gaeton. However, we know Gaeton is still in love with her especially after her father’s death The Man in Black, who was also like a father to Gaeton and Beast. We also know Gaeton and Beast have worked enough out between them to not be ripping chunks out of each other when they are in the same room, however, I have a feeling I am not going to like Isabelle as she seems really selfish. If she knew both Gaeton and Beast wanted her and she knew she wasn’t going to be able to choose between them then it was right or fair for her to enter into a relationship with either of them. I am still giving this book a chance because from what I’ve seen of Gaeton I have a feeling I am only going to love him more in this book. Here, we learn that Isabelle needs Gaeton and Beast to resume their positions as generals of the territory as losing both her father and them has made them appear weak. However, during this conversation Beast notices Isabelle submissive nature despite them all only have a vanilla relationship before and agrees for both of them to come back if she becomes their sub for two weeks and at the end of that period, she has to choose one of them to be with despite her almost clearly stating she wants both of them.

Gaeton isn’t fully convinced that this is what Isabelle wants as she is trying to hide what she really wants but he soon gives in when Beast shows him the submissive behaviour she can’t hide. However, their first scene is interrupted by Hercules who is sure that there is a consent issue and he sits in on the scene to observe and make sure everything is above board. After this they return to Gaeton’s apartment where they will be spending the majority of the next two weeks and we see the various interactions between them but this leads to far more than any of them expected. During their first night, Beast ends up topping Gaeton for the first time which leads to him realising that he has always wanted Gaeton as well as Isabelle but he ignored it until now and he doesn’t want to let either of them go. Gaeton also realises the same but both are too proud to say it out loud, however, Isabelle is being blamed and punished for the ending of their relationships when everyone was at fault. We learn that Gaeton once proposed to Isabelle but since both of them were hiding what they really wanted from the relationship she refuses and he left her, as she was also dating Beast at this time, he thought she was going to be his but she can’t be tied to just one of them and ends up leaving him. This leads to an amazing scene where Isabelle tells Beast and Gaeton honestly why she didn’t end up with either of them before and it was because they all made mistakes and didn’t communicate properly which they are going to change this time around. While both Isabelle and Gaeton are quite guarded, Beast can already imagine the three of them together and wants to make it a reality. Gaeton is taking this the hardest since he never stopped loving Isabelle and doesn’t know if he can put himself through that again but Beast convinced him that it will be enough although he doesn’t mention his plans for them yet but he does convince Gaeton for them to be a trio rather than two pairs for the next two weeks.

Things get a little dangerous however, as we know the Sea Witch has been testing the borders of Isabelle’s territory and with the loss of Gaeton and Beast she is preparing to move in on them and she even knows where all three of them are right now which doesn’t seem good. However, beast is the planner and is already working on something when he invites Tink and Hook around to outfit Isabelle with some new clothes. Tink makes sure Isabelle is ok as many people believe she has been kidnapped by Gaeton and Beast which they need to deal with now before it reflects badly on Cordelia, who took over as territory leader after the death of her father. I really liked Sienna and Cordelia who are very protective over their younger sister, although we haven’t seen much of Cordelia. Sienna is cunning and sharp but she is also very teasing with Isabelle which adds some humour to the novel where it is needed but the real focus is the trio and them working through their individual issues and their issues together and the smut scenes are some of the best, on par with Desperate Measures and I can’t wait to see what happens with this trio.

Watching everything come together as the trio learn to communicate their wants, desires, fantasies, and fears with each other was amazing and we see that communication above everything else is key in this book. We see both Gaeton and Beast put their pasts behind them and really open to Isabelle in a way they haven’t before not even when they were dating. We see Isabelle maintain her independence and freedom, without sacrificing those she loves and she steps into the life her father always tried to keep her hidden from and this throuple is honestly my favourite in the series so far. We also get a major insight into the next book as Ursa agrees to leave their territory alone if Isabelle takes a message to Olympus for a girl named Zurielle who she has met before and she agrees. She passes on the message that Ursa can reunite Zuri with Alaric which is no coincidence as there is an Alaric at the Underworld but fears that Zuri might be walking straight into Ursa’s trap but there is nothing Isabelle can do about it. That final scene where Beat, Gaeton and Isabelle all admit their love for one another and decide to get married even if it isn’t legal was beautiful and heart breaking, almost bringing me to tears as we see how much the characters have evolved over less than 300 pages and this entry has cemented Katee Robert as a writer I will definitely come back to time and time again.
